January 1, Teachers Union Demands For Homeless to Have Free Reign Over School Property

Published

In a controversial move, the Fresno Teachers Association in California is aggressively advocating for the Fresno Unified School District to open its high school parking lots to homeless families.

This audacious demand comes hot on the heels of rising tensions and an impending strike.

The union’s proposition, framed in their “last, best, and final” contract offer to the superintendent, is comprehensive. Not only do they seek access for the homeless to parking lots but also a sizeable $500,000 budget allocation for the security of these lots.

However, the school district is not on board.

Nikki Henry, the Chief Communications Officer of Fresno Unified School District, made the district’s stance clear, declaring, “We do not plan to open our parking lots as FTA is demanding.”

She rightfully highlighted that their primary competence lies in “education, not housing.”

Yet, she affirmed the district’s commitment to addressing homelessness through their sphere of expertise, such as their involvement with Project ACCESS, designed to offer support to homeless youth.

Interestingly, Manuel Bonilla, President of the Fresno Teachers Association, downplayed the significance of the parking lot proposal, dismissing it as one of the “potential examples” intended to be discussed.

He was keen to clarify that the proposal wasn’t aimed at solving the broader homeless issue in the city.

Bonilla stated, “Is it the school system’s job to fix everything in regards to societal things? Absolutely not.”

He bemoaned the school district’s actions, saying: “Instead of coming to the table and designing something with us, they’d rather scrutinize the idea and shut down the conversation.”

The alarming rise in homeless students, which saw a 30% surge in the 2022-23 school year, further complicates matters.

The teachers union’s extensive list of demands, as revealed by The Washington Free Beacon, spans far beyond the parking lot issue. Their ambitious list includes significant financial allocations for clothing, school supplies, food pantries, laundry services, and even yoga and meditation.

But it’s not just these services that are the bone of contention. Bonilla elaborated on other pressing concerns, such as the need for class size reduction, salary hikes aligned with inflation, special education considerations, and the hiring of additional nurses.

With both parties firmly entrenched in their positions, negotiations appear to be going south. The district’s promotion of a $500-a-day compensation for substitute teachers only fuels the fire.

Unless both parties find common ground soon, the union’s 4,000 members might very well be voting in favor of a strike.

The school district remains defiant, with Henry stating, “If we’re unable to reach an agreement, we are well-prepared and will ensure that our schools stay open, safe, and full of learning.”

She stressed the urgency of the situation, reminding all that students “cannot afford another school closure after the pandemic.”

Tell the teacher’s union to F.O. Teach the kids or we’ll find people who will.Go strike in front of the White House & see how much covid joe backs you. When he says he’s got your back, you’ll end up getting shot in the back.

Let them strike. The only thing the children are learning is black lives matter, equity and diversity. Reading, writing, and arithmetic have all gone out the window. As far as letting the “homeless” camp in the parking lots, that should be a no brainer right from the get-go. I can visualize needles, poop and urine all over the ground within a week. Where do these people come from that want this kind of stuff?

Under state law, where is a public school system obligated to provide shelter to these homeless people? These properties are PUBLIC/TAX
SUPPORTED SCHOOLS (educational institutions), not hotels. The public schools ARE NOT set up as camp grounds. As unfortunate as this is,
you still have to follow the law.

Teachers, stay in your lane. More precisely, teachers unions need to look out for teachers’ interests. Period.

It’s not even your job to choose curricula let alone advocate for social engineering.

If we all mind our business we all do well.

So how does this impact the teachers’ responsibilities to assure the safety of all students? The corrupt teachers unions have failed the American education system on to many levels already. This would only create more problems than these union have the ability or intentions to address.

Is the Teachers’ Association going to cut the teachers’ salaries to come up with the $500,000? It’s OK to do the “right thing” but not if you use someone else’s property and money to do it. You want something done, be prepared to pay for it.

If there ever was a reason to homeschool, here it is. Families could get together and ‘hire’ one parent to teach (cannot actually pay someone to teach as that puts you under state regulations) Push your state to allow school choice. Teachers’Unions’ no longer care about children, only in bullying politicians into supporting their latest crap.

WE DO NOT WANT PEOPLE LIKE THIS AROUND OUR CHILDREN.JUST THINK OF ALL THE DRUG USE, WE SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE, MOST OF THEM ARE DRUG ADDICTS, WHO ARE UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO WORK. WHY SHOULD THEY??? OUR GOVERNMENT IS SUPPORTING THEM, SO THIS WILL NEVER CHANGE. JUST LIKE WELFARE, ONCE ON THIS PROGRAM, PARENTS AND CHILDREN WILL NEVER GET A JOB. IT JUST FOES ON FOR GENERATIONS. OUR GOVERNMENT WILL NEVER MAKE THESE PEOPLE ENROLL IN ANY WORK PROGRAM, OR CUT THEM OFF. SO UNSAFE.THE WAY OUR COUNTRY IS GOING UNDER BIDEN AND HARRIS, HOME SCHOOLING WOULD BE THE BEST FOR OUR CHILDREN.AT LEAST THEY WOULD LEARN WHAT IS IMPORTANT . LIKE READING, SPELLING, MATH, HISTORY ETC NOT GENDER IDEOLOGY.
