Wyatt’s Take

  • Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason filed a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend after she allegedly attacked him and destroyed nearly $92,000 worth of his clothes with bleach
  • Eason claims he received death threats through an associate of his ex, warning she would ‘break both of my legs’ and ‘kill me’
  • The professional athlete is asking the court to keep his ex away from his home, workplace, and all California arenas where his team plays

Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason has taken his domestic troubles to court. The 25-year-old NBA player filed for a domestic violence restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, 32-year-old Marilyn Maritza Melo Rodriguez.

The allegations paint a disturbing picture of what happened after their relationship ended. According to court documents, the trouble started when Eason drove Rodriguez home at her mother’s request.

What should have been a simple ride home turned ugly fast. The two got into an argument after they arrived, and that’s when things allegedly turned physical.

Eason claims Rodriguez punched him in the face with a closed fist. But the alleged assault didn’t end there.

According to the filing, Rodriguez later went to Eason’s Airbnb residence. That’s where she allegedly poured liquid bleach over his designer clothing collection, destroying roughly $92,000 worth of garments.

The destruction of property was just part of the alleged revenge campaign. Eason says he received a threatening phone call from one of Rodriguez’s associates.

The caller warned that Rodriguez would “break both of my legs” and “kill me,” according to the court filing. Eason wrote that these statements left him genuinely fearing for his safety.

Now the basketball player is asking a judge to order Rodriguez to stay away from him completely. The restraining order request includes his home, personal vehicle, workplace, and any California arena where the Rockets are scheduled to play games.

Eason was the No. 17 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He’s entering his fifth NBA season after helping Houston emerge as one of the Western Conference’s up-and-coming teams.

Over his career, the young forward has averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. The Rockets are counting on him as they build toward contention.

The allegations outlined in the restraining order petition have not been proven in court. Rodriguez has not publicly responded to the claims.

Why It Matters

This case shows that domestic violence affects everyone, regardless of wealth or status. When relationships turn toxic, men face real dangers too—but they’re often dismissed or not taken seriously. The justice system needs to protect all victims equally, and restraining orders exist for a reason. False accusations destroy lives, but so does real abuse. Let the courts sort out the truth.
