Wyatt’s Take

  • Google now lets users choose news sources for its ‘Top Stories’ feed
  • Quick steps put your favorite outlets front and center in searches
  • System promises more control, but not total fairness

Google has rolled out a new “Preferred Sources” feature. This update lets users decide which news outlets show up first in Google’s “Top Stories.”

With a few clicks, you can select your trusted news source as a priority. Just go to Google’s Source Preferences and check the box next to your chosen outlet.

Once picked, these sources appear in the “From your sources” section during Google searches. You can confirm your choice by looking for your outlet at the bottom of the preference page.

This move offers a way to cut through the noise and spotlight the news that matters to you. Still, it does not completely undo the filtering by Google’s algorithms throughout all search results.

For folks who want to see more honest reporting, setting your preferences is one step toward a fairer online landscape. Make your voice heard and stand up for viewpoint diversity in your news.

Take charge and ensure the stories you value get noticed. It’s time the big tech gatekeepers hear from flyover country.

Wyatt Matters

Letting us pick our own news puts more power in the hands of everyday Americans, and less in distant tech boardrooms. This kind of say in what we read is long overdue for folks who just want a fair shake.
