January 1, Report: Students Leaving Public School in Droves
A recent report shows that more than 1.2 million students have left public schools since 2020.
The total number of public school students in the U.S. is roughly 50 million, marking a 2 percent drop.
Both rural and urban areas have experienced a steep drop-off.
The Los Angeles Unified School District’s noncharter schools have lost roughly 43,000 students since 2020.
Meanwhile, the Westwood Community School District in rural Iowa saw a 5 percent decline in enrollment over the last two years.
