January 1, Report Reveals: Robust Families Equal Reduced Crime Rates!

Published

on

A new research report from the Illinois Policy Institute reveals a strong connection between stable families and reduced crime rates in cities across Illinois, including Chicago. The study found that neighborhoods with a higher number of single-parent households face 226% higher violent crime rates and 436% higher homicide rates.

In cities across America, and particularly in Chicago, the report highlights that public safety is greater in communities where two-parent families are the dominant norm. During a recent panel discussion, Rafael Mangual, a member of the Council on Criminal Justice, discussed the impact of the 2022 police shooting of a 13-year-old Black teen in Chicago on policing policies.

Mangual explained, “The protests that ensued in the wake of that shooting led to real policy shifts on the ground where now Chicago police pursuit policies are different and foot pursuits and vehicle pursuits are significantly less likely to happen, and that changes the dynamics on the street.”

Crime has been a highly debated issue in the Chicago area and is expected to be a hot button topic during next year’s election. Gov. J. B. Pritzker recently told Crain’s Chicago Business that violent crime has been decreasing in Chicago for the past three years. However, Chicago Police Department statistics show that over the past four years, murders have increased 23% and the number of shooting incidents increased 16%.

Mangual also commented on the impact of the Black Lives Matter movement on policing, stating, “The protests not only zapped morale, but they drove an enormous amount of policy shifts. Those policy shifts created the conditions for the crime increases.”

According to the Illinois Policy Institute, Chicago Police Department arrest rates were the lowest in a decade last year, with less than 12% of the more than 238,000 crime reports resulting in arrests.

The Illinois State Police provide a public website, “Crime in Illinois Online,” as part of the Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting Program, which serves as the state’s digital storage for crime statistics and offers information for use in law enforcement.

Why It Matters (op-ed)

The Illinois Policy Institute’s report highlights the crucial role of strong families in reducing crime rates. It’s evident that single-parent households are struggling, leading to a surge in violent crime and homicides.

This should serve as a wake-up call for policymakers to focus on strengthening families and communities as a means to combat crime. The impact of policing policies, like those in Chicago, cannot be ignored, but addressing the root causes of crime is essential.

The Black Lives Matter movement has spurred policy shifts, but we need to ensure that these changes don’t inadvertently lead to increased crime. Ultimately, the key to a safer society lies in fostering stable, two-parent families and supporting communities in their efforts to create a positive environment for growth and development.

It must have take one the a Public High school education to figure this out
Just look back to the 60’s where crime was lower
then introduce Johnsons 1964 civil rights laws
then ad that free money for having children out of wed lock
    the rest is history
the Democrats created this problem not they blame in on the people
the plan worked just fine for the democrats

In 1941 there were 2,515,427 babies born in this country. Of those babies, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 95,700 — or 3.8% — were born to unmarried mothers.
By 2020, according to the CDC’s latest birth report, the percentage of American babies born to unmarried mothers had risen to 40.5%. Having to raise kids in a single parent family is not only difficult, but it makes it almost impossible to save money to buy a house. These families will live below the poverty level for generation after generation. It could stop in one generation if people would make the right choice about having sex after marriage and not before.

the founders and Jesus both said to separate from such evil. We are slaves to the STATE because “we” do NOT obey. Half of what we produce every year, is taken in the form of taxes, fee & fines, for the “permission” to live on GOD’s green earth? That use to be called slavery, back in the day. Back when bad people (criminals) were executed (another thing that we no longer obey, that GOD said to do Genesis 9:6)

This study results have come up time and time again. The left will lie about crime rates coming down, if these rates happen to come down one month out say 36 months. No laws passed will stop these out of wedlock pregnancies. Stopping the government entitlement programs and forcing people to work and getting government out of the way of capitalism is the answer.

“A new research report from the Illinois Policy Institute reveals a strong connection between stable families and reduced crime rate…” – Did we really need a “new” study to know this? Who funds “studies” to tell us the obvious? I need funding for a study that shows people with the most birthdays tend to live the longest…sigh
