January 1, Pennsylvania Woman Survives Brutal Backyard Bear Attack

Published

on

In a terrifying incident, a Pennsylvania woman was brutally attacked by a mother bear on Tuesday, as reported by ABC News. The assault took place around 8:30 p.m., just outside the victim’s residence.

The woman, identified as 55-year-old Lee Ann Galante, had stepped outside to let her small black Pomeranian dog out into the backyard. According to a police report, Galante sustained severe injuries to her arm, face, neck, and head, necessitating immediate medical intervention.

Following the attack, Galante was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital. Law enforcement officials, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, conducted an investigation into the incident. They discovered a bear family – a mother and her three cubs – in a tree near the scene.

“I thought I was going to die,” Galante recounted from her hospital bed, describing the horrifying experience of being mauled by the mother bear.

In an effort to prevent any future incidents, the Pennsylvania Game Commission took action. The adult bear was euthanized, while the cubs were safely tranquilized and relocated, as per the police report shared by ABC News.

“It’s very unfortunate that something like this has happened. Generally with wildlife encounters and our residents in Pennsylvania, it’s very enjoyable. This is something that we don’t look forward to investigating and we hope that the victim is OK,” stated Game Commission Director Jesse Bish of the Northwest Region, as reported by WTAE.

From her hospital bed, Galante shared the chilling details of her ordeal. “She had me down and she was on top of me,” she told WTAE. “I thought I was going to die.”

“I never thought this would happen to me,” she continued, expressing her disbelief at the unexpected and brutal attack.

“Then she got me by the back of my head and she was pulling so hard on it — I thought I was gonna get scalped,” Galante told WTAE. “She pulled so hard that it did pull the skin from the back of my ear and I have stitches back there,” she added, recounting the severity of the bear’s assault.

Why It Matters (op-ed)

This horrifying bear attack on a Pennsylvania woman is yet another reminder of the dangers lurking in our own backyards. Unchecked wildlife populations pose a serious threat to the safety and security of American families.

The euthanization of the adult bear and relocation of the cubs may seem like a victory, but it’s just a temporary band-aid on a much larger issue. Our government must invest in comprehensive wildlife control measures to prevent future tragedies.

In the meantime, citizens must remain vigilant and demand action from their elected officials. The safety of our communities depends on it.

Why didn’t they tranquilizer the mother and relocate her also. Depending on the age of the cubs they just as well have euthanized the cubs also because they will probably die anyway without the mother to protect them. stupidity by the wildlife people another inept organization.

this occurred nearly a mile from my home. The bear was simply answering nature by protecting her cubs. I agree that the bear had to be euthanized, but feel bad that it had to happen. We all need to be especially careful at this time of year when most births occur!!!

Very sad. The Mother bear was protecting her babies, as she should. Killing her seems harsh. They should have moved all three bears to another location, so the babies would not lose their Mother.

Government intervention is risky. The progressives would prefer all of us to live in tenements. Concentrating human inhabitants and expanding large carnivorous wildlife will eventually backfire.

“Demand action from their elected officials”. Animals are exactly that. Base emotions regarding survival of themselves and in this case, their young. It was an extremely unfortunate incident that I don’t feel she instigated or tried to make worse. This article was very poorly thought out.

Sadly, anti-God dimmercraps now equate animal life to equal or above human life.
This kind of thing will only get worse until God’s sanity again prevails as it did when America was great.

it is a sad day when we have to kill the animals that were here before we were and took all the land that was theirs. if there is a place that could have been moved to like a forest, then that is what we should have done. I am sorry for the women that got hurt, i sure hope her dog was not injured too. the same thing we have in our area with over population with deer. now our area is killing them even though we have overgrown their area with ALOT of new housing and business and so on.

All you have to do is shoot at bears when they come near, the old fashioned way. No more bears would be killed than are being killed now.

Do-gooders have lulled us into believing we can all just play nice. The bears are smarter than that. They take what they can get and they are taking our territory only because we let them. Take a few shots at them and they will immediately understand that it is our territory, shrug, and move on. It’s not a big deal to them.

There are vast spaces where they can live, a mile away from the houses. They are not a threatened species.

    Wise up.
