January 1, Filibuster Tactic May Boost Voter ID Push

Wyatt’s Take
- Rep. Anna Paulina Luna pushes the Senate to act fast on the SAVE America Act for election integrity.
- She urges using the ‘talking filibuster’ so the GOP can pass voter ID with a simple majority.
- Senate Democrats vow to fight back, but support grows among Republican senators for this bold move.
Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna says there’s still hope the senate will pass the SAVE America Act if Republicans use uncommon tactics. She wants the Senate to move quickly and make Democrats filibuster publicly to block voter ID requirements.
“Look, I think right now America has made their voices very clear. They want voter ID,” Luna said during her Fox News appearance.
The SAVE Act would require photo ID at the polls and proof of citizenship to sign up to vote. The House already approved it with just one Democrat’s support.
Luna called on Senate Majority Leader John Thune to act, and praised Senator Susan Collins for her support. She even joked about sending her roses, calling Collins “America’s valentine.”
She believes making Democrats carry out a real, old-fashioned filibuster could force the bill through. Some Republicans argue this talking filibuster would disrupt Senate business long enough to get the measure to a final vote.
Opponents promise a fight. Chuck Schumer says his party will oppose the bill “tooth and nail,” calling it “like Jim Crow 2.0.”
Some conservatives, including Senators Josh Hawley and Mike Lee, are in favor of using this approach. They think this strategy can break Democratic obstruction and show voters the GOP is serious.
Luna thinks that, if Republicans don’t deliver results, their base may not turn out. “So, the only way to really secure our country for future generations is to ensure that Americans have faith in the voting process and that, if their senators work against their interests, that they can vote them out at the ballot box, and that is exactly what this will do,” Luna said.
Luna also believes some Democrats might join in, pointing to Senator John Fetterman as a possible ally down the road.
She explained the talking filibuster used to be standard in the Senate. She wants senators to argue their positions out in the open, not hide behind procedures.
Luna says it’s time to “get back to what [the filibuster] traditionally stood for.”
Stay tuned as America’s voting rules are debated in real time. The next few weeks in Washington could decide how our elections work for years to come.
Wyatt Matters
Making sure every vote counts and that our elections are secure means standing up for everyday Americans. Folks in the heartland want faith in the ballot box—not just promises from politicians. That’s why how the Senate handles this bill matters so much for the future.

Yep, do the filibuster. then show the United States how each senator voted. This will show who listens to their voters.
