January 1, Democrat Demands Parents of “Unruly” Children Shell Out $5,000 Penalty, Enforce Compulsory “Family Counseling”

A Chicago Democrat is pushing for a controversial new ordinance that would hold parents accountable for the criminal behavior of their children.

Alderman Raymond Lopez introduced the measure during a City Council meeting on Monday, aiming to address the rampant lawlessness plaguing the city’s neighborhoods.

Under the proposed ordinance, parents and legal guardians would be required to pay fines ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the severity of their child’s crimes. They would also be mandated to undergo licensed family counseling.

The goal, according to Lopez, is not just to punish parents but to effect behavioral change and help them raise better children.

Lopez’s proposal targets a wide range of offenses that have been wreaking havoc on Chicago neighborhoods. These offenses include panhandling, underage drinking, public cannabis use, violating curfew, climbing on cars, street takeovers, and drag racing.

In addition, the ordinance would prohibit the loaning or supplying of paintball guns to minors and prevent them from engaging in begging, solicitation, or using social media to promote illegal activities.

The alderman’s motivation for introducing this ordinance stems from the disturbing trend of street takeovers and other illegal activities that have become all too common in Chicago.

Lopez witnessed a video on social media showing an unruly mob trapping a Tesla and attacking its driver.

He expressed his concern, stating, “We have children who are out of control causing 90% of the problems.”

Lopez believes that holding parents accountable for their children’s actions could significantly reduce these criminal activities. He argues that the current laws are insufficient in addressing street takeovers and other lawless behavior, as officials are hesitant to enforce stricter measures.

“Our laws are weak when it comes to stopping takeovers because we are afraid to hurt people’s feelings by holding them accountable,” he wrote in a post on X.

The alderman has been vocal about the role of ideology in exacerbating crime in Chicago. He has criticized “socialists” and “ultra-progressives” for allowing the situation to spiral out of control.

Lopez emphasized the urgency of taking action to combat criminality in neighborhoods and highlighted the prevalence of armed carjackings, often perpetrated by young teenagers.

While this proposed ordinance may face opposition from various quarters, it reflects an effort to address the pressing challenges posed by youth crime in Chicago.

By holding parents responsible for their children’s actions and offering counseling as a means of support, Lopez hopes to bring about positive change and restore safety to the city’s neighborhoods.

Why It Matters

Chicago has been plagued by a disturbing trend of lawlessness and criminal activities, with street takeovers and armed carjackings becoming all too common.

Democratic Alderman Raymond Lopez’s proposed ordinance to hold parents accountable for their children’s criminal behavior is a significant step towards restoring safety to the city’s neighborhoods.

The ordinance aims to address a wide range of offenses, from panhandling to public cannabis use, and from violating curfew to engaging in begging or using social media to promote illegal activities.

By imposing fines and requiring mandatory family counseling, the goal is not just to punish parents but to effect behavioral change and help them raise better children.

Lopez’s proposal acknowledges the inadequacy of current laws in combating these issues and the hesitance of officials to enforce stricter measures.

By targeting the root cause of the problem and holding parents accountable, this ordinance has the potential to significantly reduce youth crime in Chicago.

While the proposal may face opposition, it reflects a necessary effort to address the pressing challenges posed by youth crime.

By taking action now, we can work towards creating safer communities and restoring peace to the streets of Chicago.

They can’t have it both ways-if they want to hold parents responsible for the child’s behavior (and they should) they also have to leave decisions for the child’s emotional and mental (ie-gender decisions, birth control, etc) to the parents.

How about you just start holding these kids accountable, and punish them for their deeds. These kids don’t give a dang about anybody but themselves. They don’t care if mom and dad go bankrupt over their behavior, all they care about is being thugs and hood rats and having a ‘good time’. A lot of it is because of bad parenting. Curfew all of them. No kid needs to be on the street after 8pm on a school night, unless he’s coming home from a job or a school or church function, and if they don’t drive, then a parent needs to pick them up, or meet them there and walk them home. If they do drive, they better not be caught anywhere besides the direct route between that place and their home. A lot of it is because when they go before the judge, he just gives them a tap on the wrist and turns them loose. Their crimes never cost them anything. If they’re old enough to commit an adult crime, they’re old enough to do the adult punishment, no leniency. Parents should not be allowed to post their bail, or pay their fines or restitution. Put it all on the kids. Parents who try to lie for and condone their actions, or get in the way of arrest and punishment should be charged with obstruction, and the charges should be adjudicated to the fullest extent of the law. Once the rest of them see the hood rats going down hot, hard, and heavy, some of them will start thinking twice.

In my opinion, The ordinance is great provided that it keeps the Federal government out of the home and parental control. All these problems began when the government interfered with the parents’ child rearing, when schools began to interfere, when families were breaking apart, when respect for parents, adults, police disappeared, when religion disappeared from the homes.

Your comments are right on. The left are destroying our communities. It’s time people stand up stop being afraid of “ hurting someone’s feeling and say “enough”. They are destroying America

Yes, he’s right. Maybe this will get parents to start paying attention to their kids, and know what their doing, and where they are, and setting up rules. It’s not punishment, it’s caring about your child!!

I’m exposed to many people on a daily basis and I can’t count the times I’ve heard this line of feeling expressed to me (I agree, BTW). I don’t live very far from Chitown and I might suggest that the influence from there easily spreads to neighboring communities which is unfortunate. Hitting the parents in their pocketbooks or the threat of jail time would help tremendously to curb a great-many of our social issues.

FINALLY!!! Some uncommon, common sense!!! The parents/guardians of these so-called children MUST be held accountable!!! If they commit adult crimes, they should suffer the same level of sentencing!!! Putting the parents in jail/prison would be very appropriate for the crimes their spawn commit!!!
