A federal judge appointed by Joe Biden has dismissed Michigan’s lawsuit against major oil companies. The ruling found the state’s claims linking old conspiracy theories to current energy prices were too speculative to stand.

U.S. District Judge Jane Beckering threw out Democratic Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s federal antitrust case against BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, and the American Petroleum Institute.

“The court finds that the alleged conspiracy is too speculative to support an antitrust claim,” the judge wrote in her decision.

Nessel had argued that oil companies secretly worked together to manipulate energy markets. She claimed this alleged scheme from years ago somehow caused today’s high gas prices for Michigan families.

The judge found no solid proof connecting those old accusations to current market conditions. The lawsuit lacked the evidence needed to move forward in federal court.

“Plaintiffs have not alleged facts sufficient to show that any agreement among defendants caused the prices they paid for gasoline,” the ruling stated.

Energy costs have been a major burden on working-class households across the heartland. Families have watched pump prices climb under Biden’s policies targeting American oil production.

This decision protects energy companies from politically motivated lawsuits that try to blame them for problems created by government regulations and restrictions on domestic drilling.
