Wyatt’s Take

  • California’s high-speed rail project spent nearly seven hundred thousand dollars of taxpayer money on unapproved travel expenses that included nightclub and tiki bar visits.
  • The Inspector General report found that four consulting firms misused more than half of the money they were given over two years.
  • Working families in the heartland are paying the price for these coast-to-coast spending sprees while their own roads and bridges crumble.

California’s high-speed rail project paid out nearly seven hundred thousand dollars in unapproved travel expenses. These funds came from just over one million dollars that were reviewed for four consulting firms across a two-year span.

An Inspector General report exposed the misuse of public money on nightclub visits, tiki bar outings, and cigar lounge trips. The spending happened while the rail project itself remains years behind schedule and billions over budget.

The audit covered roughly one point one five million dollars and found that more than half of it went to questionable travel costs. California taxpayers are left holding the bill for luxury expenses that have nothing to do with building trains.

“The pattern of unapproved spending raises serious questions about oversight and accountability,” the report states.

Wyatt Matters

Middle America knows the value of hard work and honest spending. When government waste reaches this level, it is the families who pay the taxes that foot the bill for these coast-to-coast pleasure trips. Real infrastructure needs real accountability, not cocktail hours on the public dime.
