January 1, Mississippi Governor Roasts LSU After Rebels Deliver Knockout Punch in Oxford

Wyatt’s Take
- Real leadership in Mississippi celebrates a home-state win instead of spending millions chasing out-of-state glory.
- Taxpayers and fans foot the bill when coaches jump for bigger paydays and still come up short.
- Heartland folks know loyalty and grit beat fancy contracts every time.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves took a victory lap Saturday night after Ole Miss knocked off LSU in Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford. The Rebels held off a late Tigers rally and sealed the 32-24 win with a two-point conversion in the final minutes.
Reeves fired off a post on X that summed up the frustration many Mississippi fans felt watching their former coach lead a loaded LSU squad back into town.
“What does a $54 million buyout for the old coach, a $91 million contract for the new coach, and a $50 million roster get you?” he wrote. “An a-s whipping in Oxford, Mississippi!”
The governor pointed straight at the massive buyout Kiffin received when he left Ole Miss, the even bigger deal he signed at LSU, and the expensive roster the Tigers assembled this offseason. All that spending still ended with a loss on the road.
Kiffin faced boos and middle fingers from the Vaught Hemingway Stadium crowd all game long. The trash talk had built all week, and the home fans made sure he knew how they felt about his departure.
“I’m glad it’s over. This was an emotional game for a lot of reasons,” Kiffin said. “A lot of life-changing experiences here. A lot of really good people that helped me through some really hard times.
“Sometimes I don’t act like it, but I’m a human, too. Congrats to those guys. They played really well. They deserved to win.”
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss scored the game-sealing touchdown on a 14-yard run late in the fourth quarter. He said the victory carried extra weight because of the history between the two programs.
“It meant more than other games,” Chambliss said. “I’m finally glad we got that one out of the way because emotions were really high for this game.”
The Rebels are expected to jump LSU in the next AP poll. Ole Miss entered the game ranked eighth while the Tigers sat at seventh.
Wyatt Matters
Families in the heartland teach their kids that money cannot buy loyalty or heart. When coaches chase the biggest paycheck, the folks who stayed home and built the program get the last laugh.

54 million to coach a fucking college football team? That is absolutely Ludacris.
