A new book, “The People’s Justice: Clarence Thomas and the Constitutional Stories That Define Him”, aims to shed light on the overlooked aspects of Justice Clarence Thomas’ character and his impact on the Supreme Court of the United States.

The book features stories that demonstrate Thomas’ care for people, such as his interaction with a homeless man whose life he had influenced significantly. According to Nicole Garnett, one of Thomas’ law clerks, Thomas managed to help the homeless man overcome his drug addiction and reconnect with his mother before she passed away. Thomas’ collegial care extends even within the Supreme Court building; Justice Sonia Sotomayor said that he “knows every employee’s name, every one of them…he is a man who cares deeply about the court as an institution, about the people who work there—about people.”

The book also presents cases before the Supreme Court that highlight Thomas’ jurisprudence. Despite his critics painting him as favoring the rich and powerful, the book argues that Thomas’ originalist philosophy often supports the interests of ordinary people.
