January 1, McCarthy Says Cawthorn Was ‘Wrong’ About Zelenksy

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) is “wrong” in saying that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is a “thug.”

“Madison is wrong. If there’s any thug in this world, it’s Putin,” McCarthy said at a press conference.

McCarthy pointed to recent Russian attacks against civilians including a maternity hospital and a theater where Ukrainians were sheltering.

“This is atrocious. This is wrong. This is the aggressor. This is the one that needs to end this war. This is the one that everybody should unite against,” McCarthy said.

When asked if he still supports Cawthorn’s reelection, McCarthy simply said, “Yes.”
