Wyatt’s Take

  • Pro-abortion Democrats swept Virginia’s top offices, setting the stage for even more radical laws.
  • New leaders plan to rewrite state standards and remove safety rules on abortion clinics.
  • Parents, unborn children, and girls’ sports face fresh threats from this new majority.

Democrats’ big win in Virginia means extreme abortion bills are coming fast. With Abigail Spanberger becoming the first female governor and backed by a majority in both the House and Senate, the far left is in charge in Richmond.

Spanberger has promised to sign abortions into law with no limits and to veto any bill that might protect unborn babies. She has ties to abortion giant Planned Parenthood, who approved her for fighting all kinds of abortion restrictions and supporting out-of-state abortions in Virginia.

As a congresswoman, Spanberger backed bills for late-term abortions and earned an “F” rating from national pro-life groups. Now she runs the state with Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi—another Democrat who pushes for full abortion rights and even supports legalizing physician-assisted suicide.

Jay Jones, now attorney general with Spanberger’s support, is known for extremist views, including shocking public comments against political opponents. Together, they hold all the power and won’t face pro-life resistance for at least four years.

Olivia Gans Turner of the Virginia Society for Human Life warns the new laws will do more than just allow late-term abortions. She says they will “protect abortion businesses and not vulnerable women and their unborn babies … expand legal cover for abortionists that break the laws of other states, and obstruct pregnancy care programs that protect unborn children.”

It’s not just unborn children under attack. Last year, Spanberger refused to support a girls’ sports law that would have kept boys out of girls’ competitions, even after a bathroom attack attracted national attention. Republican state Sen. Mark Peake believes parents will lose their say over abortions, and that state tax dollars will start funding abortion groups.

Former Gov. Ralph Northam, known for openly supporting abortion up to birth and even suggesting letting struggling newborns die if a family wishes, shows just how far things can go. Northam removed safety standards at abortion clinics and signed extreme pro-abortion bills. Virginia’s new attorney general backed those moves as a delegate.

Years of Democrat rule have changed Virginia from a pro-life state to an abortion haven. Lawmakers are passing ever-more radical abortion laws, even though the public does not support all these changes. Only 30 percent of Virginians want abortion legal at any stage, but the politicians aren’t listening.

Thomas Jefferson said, “the care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government.” Virginia’s leaders seem to have forgotten that.
