Wyatt’s Take

  • Melania documentary wins big with everyday viewers, critics sneer
  • Audience score tops 98%, critics sink to 6% on Rotten Tomatoes
  • Media and Hollywood elites out of touch with Middle America

Melania, the new documentary about First Lady Melania Trump, set records with the biggest documentary opening weekend in a decade. Regular Americans love it, giving it a 98% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, while critics disgrace it with a measly 6%.

The gap between the viewers and the critics is a whopping 92%. Critics loved documentaries about the Obamas but trashed Melania’s. For example, “Becoming” got a 93% critic score, but only 57% from viewers, while “Southside with You” had a 92% critic rating, but just 71% from regular folks.

Even CinemaScore, which polls people leaving the theater, stamped Melania with an A. Most critics can’t put politics aside. They’re used to movies pushing the same old agenda and throw tantrums when one dares to offer something different.

“Most of the time, Ratner would rather look at her shoes. The closest thing ‘Melania’ has to a story arc concludes when she finally takes her heels off at 2 a.m. on Inauguration Day. The audience actually sighed with relief. … some people did chant ‘USA! USA!’ a few times.”

Instead of honest feedback, critics sound bitter and petty.

“It is galling to think about Jeff Bezos … investing so much money apparently to buy the president’s good graces while…preparing to cut hundreds of jobs at The Washington Post. … Apple CEO Tim Cook attended the premiere … while the Trump administration’s militarized forces are killing Americans and detaining preschoolers. Melania Trump really doesn’t seem to care about the optics of launching her $75 million show reel while the country is in such profound crisis…”

The movie tells the story of a woman who went from working-class roots in communist Slovenia to the highest circles of American life. That’s the heart of the American dream, yet critics just can’t see it.

“It should have been called ‘Day of the Living Tradwife.’… Made for an outrageously high budget ($40 million, plus $35 million spent on marketing), with a director who’d effectively been canceled over accusations of sexual abuse…the film, in its junk-streaming prefab-day-in-the-life reality-show way, mirrors the control of the Trump administration.”

The critics’ hate blinds them from the real story—an immigrant rising from nothing, being a loving mom, and showing true class. Their reviews say more about their warped priorities than about the movie itself.

If you want to judge for yourself, don’t let out-of-touch elites tell you what to think.

Wyatt Matters

This is about more than a movie; it’s proof that everyday Americans know the truth when they see it. While media insiders try to mock what matters, Middle America recognizes hard work, family, and grit.
