January 1, Cooper Flagg Faces Anti-White Backlash as He Rises to NBA Stardom

Wyatt’s Take

  • Cooper Flagg is already delivering generational talent but faces resistance simply because he is white.
  • Former players are openly claiming the NBA belongs to one race and that white stars cannot lead the league.
  • Middle America values hard work and skill over skin color and rejects any attempt to divide sports along racial lines.

Cooper Flagg is 19 years old and already one of the best basketball players in the world. The Dallas Mavericks forward is putting up 27 points, six rebounds and seven assists per game in his second season.

ESPN analyst Jeremy Lin called Flagg “generational” and said he and Victor Wembanyama could become the NBA’s next great rivalry. Brian Windhorst compared him to LeBron James at the same age but noted Flagg is already better defensively.

“In my view, Cooper is better at defense than LeBron was at the same age. I don’t even think it’s debatable,” Windhorst said.

“There were defensive plays LeBron made at that age. He certainly would get into passing lanes, he certainly would block shots, he was a defensive playmaker, but Cooper is better defensively, empirically; I don’t think that’s debatable.”

A phenom like Flagg should be a gift to the league as stars like LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant near the end of their careers. Instead his rise is exposing ugly racial instincts in sports.

Cooper Flagg is white. Former NBA player Charlie Villanueva says that fact alone disqualifies him from becoming the face of the league.

“This might sound crazy, but I don’t think in 2026 a White dude could be, I’m gonna be real, could be the face of the league, if I’m being honest,” Villanueva said. “Because it’s a Black league, right?”

He doubled down by claiming no white player can be the single best player in the NBA. “When is the last time we’ve seen a White man be the face of the league? Don’t say Larry Bird, they had to pair him up with Magic,” Villanueva said. “When was the last time a White man was single-handedly the best player in the league?”

That kind of talk has become routine. Black players have mocked Luka Doncic on the court and called him a “bitch ass white boy.” ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins accused MVP voters of favoring Nikola Jokic because he is white. Stephen A. Smith said a team built around white players cannot win a championship.

Activist Dr. Umar Johnson made the same claim about Eminem in rap music. “No non-African can ever be the best of anything African. It’s an insult to the ancestors. It’s an insult to the race and it’s an insult to every black person.”

The message is clear. Some voices want to treat basketball as a closed racial club. They insist white players are guests at best.

Basketball was invented by a white man. No sport belongs to any race. Fans in Middle America cheer for skill and heart whether the player is white or black. They cheered for Michael Jordan the same way they cheer for Nikola Jokic.

Flagg was born in Maine and went to Duke. He cannot be dismissed as an international player the way some tried to sideline Jokic and Doncic. His personality also gives him real marketing appeal.

If Flagg becomes the face of the post-LeBron NBA, expect the same racial attacks that have already hit every top white player. The resistance has started early.

Wyatt Matters

Middle America still believes the best player should win, no matter the color of his skin. We teach our kids to judge teammates and rivals by hustle and heart, not by race. When sports media and former players push the opposite message, they divide the very game that once brought people together.

So just like with Caitlin Clark in the WNBA, the blacks are showing just how racist they really are.

Yeah, it’s all about unity my ass. I think today there are more blacks who are racist than whites. Jealousy rears its ugly head. It’s the same with Caitlan Clark. Just because she’s better than everyone else and isn’t a lesbian, they ride her all the time. Something else that puzzles me is how many black people are democrats. Democrats are the party of the KKK, the most hateful group of people in the history of America, and black people vote democrat all the time. I guess it doesn’t bother them that the KKK is the party of the democrats!
