January 1, Shane Gillis SNL Monologue Triggers Media Meltdown

Wyatt’s Take
- Shane Gillis made a simple joke about gym fashion and the media lost their minds
- Critics conveniently left out the self-deprecating punchline that made the bit harmless
- The real outrage stems from Gillis refusing to play by woke comedy rules
Shane Gillis hosted Saturday Night Live and told a few jokes in his opening monologue. Some folks got upset about what he said about women at the gym.
Gillis joked about noticing the new workout shorts that women wear. He described the bright colors and the way they fit, then added the punchline about not looking because people might be filming TikToks.
“And don’t look. You’re not allowed to look. For real don’t look, ‘cause they are filming. I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now.”
Dan Levy called the joke harmful to women. He claimed men who make such observations turn women into objects.
“This is not a women’s issue, this is an everybody issue. Because the more that men objectify women in the media, the more that other men see them as objects and treat them as objects. They are not objects. They are superior human beings to men, OK? And I’m sorry if this gets me in trouble with the internet, but f*ck.”
Kelly Lawler wrote about the routine but left out Gillis’s actual ending. She suggested comedians like Gillis create problems for women in America.
Critics treat Gillis differently because he won’t follow the approved comedy script. He makes fun of both sides, which makes him an enemy to the left.
“I think because they know I’m woke.”
Anthony Jeselnik said this about why woke comics leave him alone. Gillis gets attacked because he won’t claim that label.
The bigger issue here is simple. Americans should be able to laugh at jokes without needing permission from media gatekeepers. Gillis proved that regular folks still enjoy comedy that doesn’t lecture them first.
Wyatt Matters
Middle America still knows how to laugh at everyday observations without turning them into national emergencies. Working families have bigger concerns than whether a comedian noticed what people wear to the gym.
