January 1, HORROR at Sea: Luxury Cruise Ship Infected With Deadly Virus Finally Docks

Wyatt’s Take
- A luxury cruise ship infected with deadly hantavirus has finally docked in Spain after passengers were trapped onboard with the dangerous disease
- The m/v Hondius arrived at the Canary Islands following what must have been a nightmare voyage for American tourists just trying to enjoy their vacation
- Another reminder that global health threats can strike anywhere — and our families deserve better protection and transparency when traveling abroad
The hantavirus-stricken luxury cruise ship m/v Hondius has docked at the Canary Islands in Spain, located off the coast of northwest Africa. The vessel is finally nearing the end of its journey after passengers were exposed to the deadly virus while aboard.
The ship’s arrival marks a harrowing conclusion to what should have been a dream vacation for travelers. Instead, families found themselves trapped on a floating petri dish with a virus that can cause severe respiratory illness and even death.
The CDC issued this Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory to inform clinicians and health departments about the hantavirus disease cases caused by infection with Andes virus. The risk to the public's health in the United States is considered extremely low at this time. As a… pic.twitter.com/zfwl2BhzRm

Hantavirus is no joke — it’s transmitted through contact with rodent droppings, urine, or saliva. The fact that this outbreak happened on a luxury cruise ship raises serious questions about sanitation standards and safety protocols on international vessels.
American tourists pay premium prices for these cruises expecting world-class accommodations and service. What they got instead was exposure to a potentially fatal disease far from home, with limited medical resources available at sea.
This incident should serve as a wake-up call about the risks Americans face when traveling internationally. Our citizens deserve better protection and our government should be demanding answers about how this outbreak was allowed to happen in the first place.
Wyatt Matters
For hardworking American families who save up for years to afford a cruise vacation, this is a nightmare scenario. You trust these companies to keep you safe, and they let you down. We need stronger oversight of international cruise lines and real accountability when American lives are put at risk. Your family’s safety shouldn’t be an afterthought.

Hantavirus can be deadly, but it is NOT common and most commonly in the US is in the 4 corners region of the SW. It CAN BE TREATED easily in the early stages and needs to be if there is possible exposure sweeping an area where they may be rat or deer mouse feces/urine, then developing muscles aches and flu-like symptoms. It doesn’t seem to readily spread person to person. Talk to someone not afraid to treat it early to avoid it going too far if you had possible exposure. In 34 years of knowing about it, I know of NO cases in the Midwest.
