Wyatt’s Take

  • Fired employee says he was punished for defending Jewish students.
  • Allegations point to rising antisemitism on campuses.
  • University denies accusations and plans to fight the case.

A former employee at California State University, Northridge says he lost his job for speaking out against antisemitism and trying to keep Jewish students and faculty safe. Sam Lingrosso, who worked as the Director of Academic Employees Relations, claims he was terminated because he pushed for protection and support after rising threats, especially around the anniversary of the October 7 attack on Israel.

According to the complaint, Lingrosso asked campus police to help a professor worried about hateful messages posted near his office and raised alarms about harassment faced by Jewish students during pro-Palestinian campus protests. The lawsuit says university leadership criticized Lingrosso and took it personally when he was praised for acting decisively, instead of just talking about campus safety.

“CSUN had a duty to protect their Jewish faculty members and ensure a safe learning environment, free of threats and harassment,” said attorney Eyal Farahan in a statement. Farahan accused campus leaders of ignoring antisemitism and allowing fear to spread.

The university has rejected the charges and said the claims are “completely unfounded.” CSUN insists it stands by its commitment to an inclusive campus and will defend itself in court.
