Wyatt’s Take

  • The Commission of Fine Arts approved moving forward with a 250-foot triumphal arch planned for the Potomac River by 2028.
  • The design calls for a 60-foot Lady Liberty, 24-carat gold plating, and patriotic details meant to celebrate American strength.
  • Supporters say the project honors the nation’s 250th anniversary, while critics argue it is too costly and oversized.

The D.C. establishment is clutching its pearls because President Trump wants to build something that actually looks like it belongs in a great nation.

The Commission of Fine Arts just voted to move forward with a 250-foot-tall triumphal arch that will tower over the Potomac River by 2028.

This masterpiece will feature a 60-foot Lady Liberty and 24-carat gold plating to celebrate American strength and the national dream.

While elite preservation groups are whining about the cost and scale, it is about time we stopped building glass boxes and started building symbols of pride.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum formally introduced the project, noting that great nations build beautiful works of art to cultivate love of country.

The design includes an observation deck where regular Americans can finally get an exclusive view of their own capital city.

“The one that people know mostly is the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France, and, we’re gonna top it by, I think, a lot,” President Trump said of the project.

He noted that while other monuments have history on their side, this new arch will offer something the likes of which has never been done before.

Predictably, liberal lawmakers and certain activist groups have already filed lawsuits to stop the construction.

They claim the massive structure dishonors the surrounding area, but supporters see it as a vital link connecting the capital to the South.

“Long after everyone in this room is gone, our children and grandchildren will remain inspired by this national Monument,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

The final vote for the project is expected this May as the administration continues to modernize the federal enclave.

Wyatt Matters

Working-class families understand that a nation without monuments is a nation without a soul. A bold tribute to American freedom stands against the bland architecture that has defined too many public spaces.
