January 1, Patriots Star Makes Bold Claim No Team Can Ignore

Wyatt’s Take
- Stefon Diggs just put every NFL front office on notice — he’s the best No. 2 receiver available, period, and he’s got the stats to prove it.
- Despite bogus charges that a jury threw out, Diggs is still waiting for a call while lesser talents cash paychecks.
- Seven 1,000-yard seasons in eight years speaks louder than any smear campaign — this is about winning, not woke virtue signaling.
Stefon Diggs isn’t backing down. The veteran receiver, fresh off a Super Bowl LX run with the New England Patriots, is making his case loud and clear: no team in the NFL has a better No. 2 receiver available right now.
With training camps opening across the country at the end of the month, Diggs took to his YouTube channel to lay out exactly why he belongs on an NFL roster — and why he’s better than just about anyone else teams could sign.
“Everybody got a 1,” Diggs said.
“Opportunities aside, people might say there’s seven real 1s. In my opinion, I can compete with anybody, but take those as your 1s. You can’t name a No. 2 better than me. There’s not a No. 2 on a team. Let’s presumably give people the credit and just say, ‘OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away.’ Name your No. 2 receiver right now. Tell me how much he makes. My last question is: Is he better than me?”
Diggs isn’t just talking. He’s got the resume to back it up.
In his lone season with the Patriots, the 32-year-old hauled in 1,013 yards on 85 receptions with four touchdowns from breakout quarterback Drake Maye. That marked his seventh 1,000-yard season — and those seven have come in just the last eight years.
Not many receivers in the league can match that kind of consistency. Yet here Diggs sits, unsigned, while lesser talents collect paychecks.
So what’s the holdup?
Some speculate it’s tied to off-field drama. Diggs faced serious allegations back in December after being charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault following a dispute with his private chef.
But a jury found him not guilty. The NFL reviewed the case and found insufficient evidence to warrant any suspension under its personal conduct policy.
“We have taken these allegations seriously from Day One and that’s exactly why we were eager for the facts to come to light through the legal process,” Mitch Schuster of Meister, Seelig & Schuster, the firm that represented Diggs, said in a statement.
Diggs’ attorney added that “professional athletes have a target on their back” — and it’s hard to argue otherwise when a man cleared by a jury is still getting frozen out.
The Patriots released Diggs in March. Since the NFL cleared him in May, he’s been staying in shape and waiting for the phone to ring.
Diggs made it clear he’s willing to be a No. 2 option and potentially take a pay cut to land with a contender. He’s not chasing a spotlight — he’s chasing a ring.
Teams that could make sense include the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, Washington Commanders, Kansas City Chiefs, or even a reunion with the Buffalo Bills and quarterback Josh Allen. Diggs and Allen built one of the most lethal connections in the league, earning four straight Pro Bowls together from 2020 to 2023.
Wyatt Matters
This is what happens when the culture wars seep into locker rooms. A man gets cleared in court, the league finds nothing actionable, and still he sits unsigned while teams trot out lesser talent. Diggs put up over 1,000 yards last season — that doesn’t happen by accident. If your team needs a proven winner who can still deliver, you make the call. Otherwise, don’t complain when you’re watching someone else hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
