January 1, California BILLIONAIRE TAX Heads to Ballot — Wealth Exodus Fears Mount

Wyatt’s Take
- California Democrats just greenlit another wealth-grab targeting the state’s job creators and billionaire residents — this one-time tax could trigger a mass exodus of the last remaining high-earners.
- Secretary of State Shirley Weber confirmed the measure qualified for November’s ballot, giving voters a chance to turn California into an even bigger business graveyard.
- Instead of fixing the spending crisis, Sacramento wants to chase out the people who still pay taxes — classic liberal “solution” that punishes success and rewards failure.
California Democrats are at it again. A one-time tax measure aimed squarely at the state’s wealthiest residents has officially qualified for the November general election ballot, Secretary of State Shirley Weber announced this week.
The measure represents yet another attempt by California’s leftist government to squeeze more money out of the same shrinking pool of high-earners. While the details of the tax haven’t been fully disclosed, the move signals Sacramento’s continued addiction to taxing success rather than cutting wasteful spending.
Weber’s announcement sets the stage for a November showdown between taxpayers and tax-hungry progressives. The initiative would impose what backers call a “one-time” levy on billionaires — though conservatives know that in California, temporary taxes have a funny way of becoming permanent.
California already holds the dubious distinction of having the nation’s highest state income tax rate, topping out at 13.3%. Despite bringing in record revenues, the state continues to run massive deficits thanks to runaway spending on bloated government programs and unchecked illegal immigration costs.
Rather than address the spending problem, Sacramento politicians reflexively reach for the same playbook: tax the rich. The problem? California’s wealthy are already fleeing in droves to low-tax states like Texas, Florida, and Nevada.
Between 2020 and 2023, California lost more than 700,000 residents — many of them high-income earners tired of being treated like ATMs for progressive pet projects. This new billionaire tax could accelerate that exodus, leaving middle-class Californians holding an even bigger bag.
The measure will appear alongside other controversial initiatives on California’s November ballot, including measures on crime, homelessness, and education. Turnout is expected to be high as voters weigh in on the state’s deteriorating quality of life.
For billionaires still clinging to California residency, the message is clear: get out while you can. Once this tax passes, you can bet Sacramento will come back for more.
Wyatt Matters
This isn’t about fairness — it’s about punishing the people who create jobs and drive the economy. California’s working families will pay the price when the wealthy pack up and leave, taking their businesses, their payrolls, and their tax dollars with them. The American Dream isn’t about tearing down success — it’s about protecting the freedom to build it.

Hey california continue to do what you have always done, spend, spend and than tax those have been succesful in thier lives. You making the people with the money, and business to find other friendly places to work, build a business and have a better life. No successful person wants to stay in california and watch the government take more and more of your hard earn money. The sad part is that taxes will have to be raised on the remaning people because the snart people are leaving and taking their money with them

Tremendous damage has already been done by floating this proposition. Billionaires have left and more will follow. California is dependent on the state income taxes these high earners pay. The other loss is charitable giving. Many of these people give millions to local charities, once they move those donations will go with them. This is the greed of the SEIU, thinking the well will never run dry.

I am really sorry that I have to say that I was born in California, but my parents were there for the war effort, fortunately they moved back to Oklahoma before California crud could creep in on me.
