Wyatt’s Take

  • California Democrats are pushing a bill critics say could target independent journalists and researchers.
  • The measure would let certain groups sue people who film or investigate them in public.
  • Opponents say it threatens transparency and free speech around public spending and immigration services.

Independent reporter Nick Shirley said the bill protects fraudsters at the expense of working people.

He argued it could criminalize simply searching for where tax dollars are going.

“They’re literally saying you cannot film in public space.”

The bill claims to protect workers from harassment, but critics say it could block accountability.

Supporters argue it is meant to shield immigration volunteers from threats.

Opponents say it could be used to hide corruption and punish people who ask tough questions.

“Instead of going after the fraudsters, California is going after the people exposing the fraud.”

AGAIN, if California thinks something is a good idea, it definitely is not. That state is the poster child of what a state should not do.
