January 1, Trump Slaps Tariffs On Europe Over Greenland Fight
Wyatt’s Take
- Trump targets eight European countries with new tariffs in clash over Greenland.
- He warns of global dangers if America doesn’t control the island.
- Talks with Denmark and Greenland remain stalled as pressure increases.
President Trump says he’ll put a 10% tariff on Denmark and seven other European countries for standing against America’s push to take over Greenland.
He claims Greenland is vital for U.S. safety and the security of free nations everywhere.
He wrote:
“world peace is at stake,”
“China and Russia want Greenland, and there is not a thing that Denmark can do about it.”
Trump poked fun at Denmark’s defense, saying they have only “two dogsleds” to protect the place.
He says only the U.S. can keep our enemies at bay and shield the Arctic territory.
He added:
“We have subsidized Denmark, and all of the Countries of the European Union, and others, for many years by not charging them Tariffs, or any other forms of remuneration. Now, after Centuries, it is time for Denmark to give back.”
Trump announced tariffs on all Danish goods, plus products from Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
All of those countries said they’d back Denmark by sending their military to Greenland.
He said:
“This is a very dangerous situation for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet. These countries, who are playing this very dangerous game, have put a level of risk in play that is not tenable or sustainable.”
This 10% tariff is on top of the regular 15% tariff America already imposed on Europe and the 10% with the UK.
Trump warned if Greenland isn’t handed over by June, the tariff jumps up to 25%.
Trump said Greenland is crucial for new missile defense systems:
“Hundreds of Billions of Dollars are currently being spent on Security Programs having to do with ‘The Dome,’ including for the possible protection of Canada, and this very brilliant, but highly complex system can only work at its maximum potential and efficiency, because of angles, metes, and bounds, if this Land is included in it.”
The United States is open to deals, Trump said, even with the nations now taking sides against us.
For now, Denmark and Greenland won’t budge.
America may make a cash offer, but nothing’s promised.
Leaders met in the White House, with top U.S. officials pushing for talks, but Danish and Greenlandic officials said there’s still a “fundamental disagreement” about the island’s future.
Wyatt Matters
Standing up for American strength and protecting our interests is something folks in the heartland know is worth fighting for, even when powerful countries get in the way.
