Wyatt’s Take

  • John Mbuyi is accused of shooting 33-year-old Raissa Thatukila and their 6-year-old daughter, Nathy, inside a car.
  • Police say Mbuyi had an active custody battle and was struggling with the recent death of his own father.
  • The suspect reportedly turned the gun on himself after the attack near the Birdville school district stadium.

A horrific tragedy unfolded in Texas after a man allegedly lured his young daughter and her mother to a stadium parking lot before killing them both.

This senseless act of violence has left a community in mourning over a life cut far too short.

Detectives stated that Mbuyi harbored significant grievances toward the mother and had been expressing worrying thoughts about death.

Officers found one victim dead at the scene while the second passed away after being rushed to a local hospital.

Nathy was a kindergarten student at Cheney Hills Elementary, where the community is now trying to process the loss.

Principal Cheryl Waddell expressed the school’s grief in a letter to local parents.

“We are devastated by the loss of one of our students and heartbroken that this tragedy occurred in our community,”

the letter read.

“The loss of a student is always difficult and filled with a variety of emotions.”

Locals have started leaving flowers and stuffed animals at the site of the shooting to honor the victims.

“The name Mbuyi is of Central African and Bantu origin, predominantly found among the Luba, Lunda, and Kongo peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.”

“While primarily rooted in the DRC, variations of the name appear across Angola, Tanzania, and Zambia, and have been adapted in French and Portuguese records due to colonial influences.”
