January 1, Social Media Reveals Astonishing Walmart Price Hike: Is Inflation Out of Control?

Inflation has been hitting consumers hard, with a record-high peak of 9.1 percent in 2022. But just how much have prices increased at stores like Walmart? A TikTok user named @sewerlidd recently decided to find out by comparing his delivery order from two years ago to the same order today.

On June 25, @sewerlidd posted a video showing that his Walmart order of 53 items, which cost $126.67 in 2021, now amounted to a staggering $414.39. “That is four times more,” he said. “How? I feel like I’m going to be sick.”

The video quickly gained nearly 2 million views, with many viewers expressing their shock and dismay at the price increase. “Life isn’t affordable anymore,” one user commented, while another said, “I knew it was going to be bad. I didn’t know it was gonna be this bad.”

Some accused Walmart of “price gouging,” especially considering the company’s record profits. In March, former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich criticized the retailer for this very reason. “Walmart hiked prices on its Great Value food brands. The result? Its net income spiked 93% to $10.5 billion towards the end of 2023,” he wrote in a post.

However, some questioned the validity of @sewerlidd’s TikTok, noting that he didn’t show the full detailed list of either order’s contents. One user speculated that he may have accidentally “reordered all” three times, which would make the price difference far less drastic.

Walmart has not yet commented on the viral video, but the company has claimed to be taking measures to lower consumer costs. In May, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon announced that they had rolled back prices on nearly 7,000 items in their stores. “Our combination of everyday low prices plus a large number of rollbacks is resonating [with consumers],” he said.

VERY INTERESTING !!! or was that Roan and Martin LAUGH IN ?? NOT taking sides ! But you would think ? Making a accusation of PRICE from one period to another ? You would have proof showing the exact difference of said items from prior time to present ?? On the other HAND ! If you where the said company be SLAMED ! and NOT TRUE !! One would think You would be screaming LIE !! LIE no SUCH THING ! Company would almost have too have the exact PRICES THEN and NOW ??? But who am I ? just another dumb consumer . Will just BELIEVE all the GREAT STUFF JOE say !!

More specifically it was the German soldier smoking in the shrubbery on Laugh-In. And as for the sewerlidd post, well, the math is a bit off. Increase is only 3.27 times more – not 4 times!! But then, 4 sounds more S.H.O.C.K.I.N.G !! Yes, he/she SHOULD feel sick with math skills like that. And it would greatly increase validity with a list of items and prices – then and now. Would not be surprised to discover an addition error with such poor math skills….
