January 1, REPORT: Google’s Massive Layoffs Move

Published

on

Google is set to lay off “several hundred” employees from its global advertising sales team, according to an internal memo obtained by Business Insider. The layoffs come as a result of “a substantial channel shift” in organizational restructuring, with the company shifting its focus from Large Customer Sales (LCS) to Google Customer Solutions (GCS) in order to better serve “customer needs.”

The memo, penned by Chief Business Officer Phillip Schindler, revealed that this year’s annual restructuring would be more significant than usual. As a result, “several hundred jobs will be eliminated or put at risk (subject to local regulations and consultations).”

Google spokesperson Chris Pappas appeared to confirm the memo’s authenticity, telling Business Insider that “a few hundred roles globally are being eliminated and impacted employees will be able to apply for open roles on the team or elsewhere at Google.” This news comes shortly after the company reportedly laid off at least 1,000 employees.

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, had previously laid off 12,000 people – six percent of its workforce – in January 2023. The CEO’s letter announcing the cuts explained that the company had “hired for a different economic reality than the one we face today.”

Google later faced a legal setback when a jury ruled in December 2023 that the company’s app store had abused its “monopoly to extract exorbitant fees, stifle competition, and reduce innovation.” A high-ranking Google executive stated that the company would “challenge the verdict.”

Why It Matters (op-ed)

Google’s decision to lay off hundreds of employees exposes the company’s hypocritical stance on social responsibility. While they claim to prioritize people, their actions show otherwise.

The constant restructuring and job cuts are a transparent attempt to maintain power and profit, disregarding the livelihoods of their loyal employees.

Furthermore, Google’s monopoly abuse verdict reveals their sinister agenda to control the market and silence competitors.

This serves as a reminder that Big Tech’s virtue-signaling facade cannot be trusted and must be held accountable by the people, for the people.
