The measure was designed to be straightforward: if you’re a convicted sex offender, you cannot represent the people of California in any official capacity.
Democrats rejected the proposal outright.
The clash highlighted a growing divide between Republicans pushing for stricter accountability measures and Democrats who argue such blanket bans could be unconstitutional or overly punitive. But for many Californians watching from home, the issue is black and white.
“This should not be controversial,” one conservative commentator noted. “No parent wants a convicted predator making decisions that affect their children’s schools, neighborhoods, or safety.”
Valladares’s amendment would have applied to all levels of state and local government, ensuring that anyone with a sex offense conviction on their record would be permanently disqualified from seeking or holding elected office.
The proposal came amid increasing concerns nationwide about the presence of individuals with serious criminal backgrounds in positions of public trust. While some states have enacted similar restrictions, California has resisted broader disqualification measures, citing concerns about civil rights and the potential for discrimination.
Critics of the Democratic majority’s decision argue that protecting children and vulnerable communities should take precedence over abstract legal arguments. They point out that voters have a right to know they’re being represented by people without violent or predatory criminal histories.
Supporters of Valladares’s measure say the rejection reflects California’s broader soft-on-crime approach, which has contributed to rising public safety concerns across the state. They argue that holding public office is a privilege, not a right, and that basic standards of moral conduct should be non-negotiable.
Democrats, for their part, have not issued detailed explanations for blocking the amendment, leaving many to wonder why such a proposal wouldn’t receive bipartisan support.

Big surprise! It’s probably because most of the Democrats in office in California are sex offenders and they will lose their office. California is full of sick people in their government. It’s no surprise because they have no common sense.

Not only are the elected officials in California sick people. The voting public who voted them to office are just as sick. Some of the votes may have come via ineligible voters. Remember most elections are RUN by the elected officials and they don’t allow their counting to be scrutinized or analyzed.

Rather than calling names, etc., maybe we should be asking “Are there hidden items in the bill to cause the Left to lose any semblance of common sense?” I, for one, am tired of being given ‘part-truths’ from either side. If the proposed bill was straight forward, with no added agenda items, then CA voters have every right to stand up and throw verbal arrows (preferably barbed) at any politician who doesn’t have the balls to give a detailed explanation of why they would vote against this bill.

I’m sort of a ”’DONT ASK DON’T TELL”””””person….I’m kind of sick of people talking about their sexual preference or who they are when they are not. I do want to protect our children from all of this. I know that it has to be confusing to them when a man walks up wearing a dress and high heels and makeup and talks in that deep voice. We have enough confusion in this world ..and this makes it worse. I am a common sense type of person myself. I do not believe that any form of homosexual or lesbian person is normal. I do believe that there is something amiss in the body of people like this. I also believe that these people do not choose this. It is already there, in which case more study needs to be done in the brain to find out exactly pin pointing what it is….when found the person can be given the option of trying to fix it…..because NO ITS NOT NORMAL AT ALL…then this other thing with TRANSGENDER….is just the same thing as homosexual or lesbian with them wanting also to wear the clothes of the sex they feel they are. this isnt normal either. We all have some kind of abnormality and this is just one of them and to me the hardest to live with besides illnesses. But first and foremost we have to protect our children . I think we have become too touchy feely about this issue and trying to make people like this feel its okay. Sadly its a hard thing to deal with esp if they dont choose it or to be like this…

referring to the talk on here about if a person who has been convicted of a sexual crime…..should they be able to hold office….NO….they should not…..same thing if a person has been convicted of a serious crime of any kind should not hold any kind of office…
