Wyatt’s Take

  • The U.S. Embassy in Venezuela warned Americans to leave the country now over severe safety threats.
  • Venezuelan roads are home to armed militias targeting people linked to the U.S.
  • The Embassy says it cannot help if Americans get caught up in the chaos.

American travelers in Venezuela have been told to get out at once due to serious security risks. The U.S. Embassy in Caracas put out an alert telling citizens not to visit Venezuela and to leave if they can.

“Do not travel to Venezuela; Depart immediately,” U.S. Embassy Caracas warned on Saturday.

Militias known as ‘colectivos’ are setting up roadblocks and searching cars for signs of Americans or U.S. supporters. The embassy says danger includes “wrongful detention, torture in detention, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and poor health infrastructure.”

Back in late 2025, the FAA had already warned about increased military activity in the area. This month, a full ban on U.S. planes was set, right after Caracas was hit in a U.S. operation to arrest former Venezuelan leaders. Now, with flights starting up again, Americans are urged to grab the chance to get out.

  • Do not travel to Venezuela.
  • Take immediate safety steps if already there.
  • Leave as soon as you safely can.

The embassy advises keeping multiple ways to contact family and preparing emergency plans if staying behind. With flights limited and demand sky-high, getting out is harder but still possible.
