January 1, Gun Makers Drop BOMBSHELL at Supreme Court Over Lawsuit

Wyatt’s Take
- Over a dozen firearms companies just asked the Supreme Court to throw out a lawsuit trying to blame them for one lunatic’s crime
- This is the left’s playbook: when they can’t ban guns through Congress, they try to bankrupt gun makers with frivolous lawsuits
- If this lawsuit stands, what’s next — suing Ford every time a drunk driver kills someone?
More than a dozen firearms industry companies filed a petition with the Supreme Court Wednesday, asking the justices to toss out a lawsuit attempting to hold them responsible for a 2022 shooting spree. The case represents the latest front in the left’s war on the Second Amendment — when they can’t win at the ballot box, they head to the courtroom.
The shooting in question took place in April 2022 in Washington D.C. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Raymond Spencer opened fire from an apartment, sending over 200 rounds toward a school and wounding four people before the rampage ended.
Now gun manufacturers are being dragged into court over Spencer’s actions. It’s a strategy gun control activists have used for years: if you can’t outlaw firearms, try to sue the companies that make them out of existence.
The firearms companies argue they shouldn’t be held liable for the criminal actions of an individual who misused their products. It’s basic common sense — the kind that used to be universal in America before activist judges and trial lawyers turned our legal system into a weapon against industries the left doesn’t like.
Federal law has long protected gun manufacturers from these exact kinds of lawsuits through the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. That 2005 law recognized a simple truth: you don’t blame the manufacturer when someone misuses a legal product to commit a crime.
But anti-gun activists have spent years looking for loopholes and sympathetic courts to get around those protections. They’ve found willing partners in deep-blue jurisdictions where judges are more interested in advancing a political agenda than following the law.
The Supreme Court’s decision on whether to hear this case could have massive implications. If the justices allow these lawsuits to proceed, it would open the floodgates to litigation designed to bankrupt an entire industry through legal fees alone — even when companies win in court.
This isn’t about justice for victims. It’s about using the courts to accomplish what gun grabbers can’t achieve through legislation. And it’s about punishing law-abiding companies for making a product millions of Americans use responsibly every single day.
Wyatt Matters
When someone uses a hammer to commit assault, we don’t sue the hardware store. When a drunk driver kills someone, we don’t sue General Motors. But when it comes to guns, the left wants to throw all logic out the window. This case is about whether we’re a nation of laws or a nation where activist judges can destroy industries they don’t like. Working Americans who believe in the Constitution are watching closely.
