Wyatt’s Take

  • A New York judge just threw out critical evidence against Luigi Mangione, the man accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in cold blood on a Manhattan street.
  • Police searched Mangione’s backpack without a warrant at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s — and now prosecutors are scrambling after the judge ruled it was an illegal search.
  • This case shows how even accused killers can walk free when law enforcement cuts corners, and hardworking Americans are left watching justice slip through the cracks.

A New York court delivered a stunning blow to prosecutors Monday, blocking them from using key evidence seized from Luigi Mangione’s backpack in his upcoming murder trial. The ruling centers on what the judge deemed an unlawful warrantless search conducted by Altoona, Pennsylvania, police.

Mangione was questioned at a McDonald’s in December 2024 in connection with the high-profile murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was gunned down in New York City that same month. During that questioning, police searched Mangione’s backpack without obtaining a warrant — a move the court has now ruled violated his constitutional rights.

The decision means prosecutors will have to build their case without whatever evidence was found in that backpack. Legal experts say this could create significant challenges for the state as it prepares to take Mangione to trial for one of the most closely watched murder cases in recent memory.

Thompson’s killing shocked the corporate world and sent shockwaves through the healthcare industry. The CEO was shot in what authorities described as a targeted attack in midtown Manhattan. Mangione was later apprehended in Pennsylvania after a massive manhunt.

Now, with critical evidence thrown out, questions are mounting about whether prosecutors can secure a conviction. The ruling underscores the importance of proper police procedures — even when dealing with suspects in heinous crimes.

For families of crime victims across America, this kind of courtroom setback is a painful reminder of how legal technicalities can derail justice. When law enforcement doesn’t follow the rules, guilty verdicts become harder to secure, and dangerous criminals can slip through the system.

Wyatt Matters

This is what happens when the system bends over backward to protect the accused while victims and their families get left behind. Middle America knows the difference between right and wrong — and when a CEO gets gunned down in broad daylight, people expect justice, not courtroom games. We need law enforcement that follows the Constitution, but we also need a justice system that doesn’t let killers walk on technicalities.

I hope the prosecution appeals this hideous ruling to another court because Mangione must be sent to prison for the rest of his Life.

This is of course another woke tragedy. But there is video whichclearly shows mangione shooting the victim in the back. That should be enough evidence regardless of the backpack fiasco. This judge is clearly biased . mangiones disgusting behavior gloating at his imminent victory is disgusting beyond words. The victim was a loving father of Two young children. Where has American justive gone? Down the drain at the hamds of corrupt democrat judges. They make a mockery of justice in America, They are responsible for the rise in murders assaults snd felonies in general. Shame on them

He cannot be allowed to get away with murder. The evidence against him is there on video. This is not justice at all if he is allowed to get away with it. If he can’t get the chair at least give him life without parole. He murdered a man deliberately with malice and intent. Don’t let a little thing like a search of his stuff let him off. Why not have the trial in any other state but NY. liberals and illegals own the justice system in that hell hole.
    Justice must be served.
