January 1, Trump Threatens Action Over Nigeria Christian Killings
Wyatt’s Take
- Trump warns military action if Nigeria allows Christian killings
- U.S. aid could stop as pressure grows on Nigerian leaders
- Nigerian officials deny there is religious persecution
President Trump says the United States may take action if Christian killings in Nigeria don’t stop. He called on the Department of War to get ready and warned aid to Nigeria could be cut off.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
He said, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
Trump has called the situation an “existential threat” for Christians in Nigeria, saying, “Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”
He labeled Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN” and called on lawmakers to investigate and report back.
Nigerian Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar denied any genocide and said, “For the avoidance of any doubt, and out of respect for all the victims and survivors around the world of this unique and appalling crime against humanity, let the record show that there is no genocide, now or ever, in Nigeria.”
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also said there is no religious persecution, calling it “a lie from the pit of hell.”
Back in 2014, Boko Haram kidnapped almost 300 schoolgirls from a Christian community. Over 90 have still not been found, and many suffered major abuse at the hands of terrorists.
Nicki Minaj shared her feelings on the situation, writing, “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.”
Senator Ted Cruz said, “Officials in Nigeria are ignoring and even facilitating the mass murder of Christians by Islamist jihadists.” He wants sanctions on those who are responsible.
This story matters to many in the heartland. Stand up for protecting faith and holding leaders responsible.
