Wyatt’s Take

  • Trump says India and Russia are siding with China
  • Leaders of all three met at China’s summit
  • U.S. may be losing old allies to rival powers

President Trump said India and Russia now seem to have moved closer to China after their leaders joined Chinese President Xi Jinping at a summit this week. Trump shared a photo of the three leaders together and wrote,

“Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest, China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!”

At the summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin were seen joining Xi and standing side by side. Trump’s comments come as he has cooled relations with India over trade and other disagreements.

The Indian government had no comment about Trump’s statement. China and Russia did not respond right away to questions about his post. The summit hosted over twenty leaders from countries outside the West, showing new alliances are forming.

Recently, Trump said he was “very disappointed” in Putin, though he said he is not worried yet about Russia’s growing ties with China.

With old friends showing up in Beijing, America may face more challenges on the world stage. Our leaders need to keep America first and look out for Main Street, not foreign powers.
