January 1, BOMBSHELL NHL Ace Locks Down Insane Payday

Wyatt’s Take

• Colorado just paid their best defenseman a king’s ransom to stay put.
• Real talent still gets rewarded in this country when a team wants to win.
• Big money now means fans have every right to demand another championship.

Hockey players are raking in huge money this summer. The Colorado Avalanche just locked up their star defenseman Cale Makar.

He has won the Norris Trophy twice. The new deal lasts eight years and pays a jaw-dropping sum.

It sets a new record for yearly pay in the NHL. The contract starts after this season.

It beats other big star deals signed this summer. The league salary cap keeps climbing so player pay climbs too.

Is it smart to hand one man such a big slice of the team budget? For this player it makes sense.

Few men on ice do what he does. He moves the puck, sets up goals, and still plays tough defense.

He has piled up over 500 points in fewer than 500 games. He also runs the top power play unit.

The Avalanche already won a Stanley Cup with him. Now the paycheck is massive and the pressure is on to win another.

Wyatt Matters

Hard work and skill still matter in America. Hockey is a tough game that rewards the best men on the ice, not the loudest voices. Families in the heartland gather to watch real competition and real winners. Pay the ones who earn it and expect them to bring home the Cup. That is the way it should be.
