January 1, Seven House Republicans Break Ranks on Iran Hostilities

Wyatt’s Take
- Seven Republican lawmakers sided with Democrats to push a war powers measure against President Trump’s Iran policy.
- The vote shows a small faction in the House willing to tie the hands of an elected commander-in-chief.
- Middle America still expects strong national defense and clear leadership, not mixed signals from Washington.
Seven House Republicans joined Democrats on Tuesday to pass a war powers resolution aimed at forcing President Donald Trump to halt military action against Iran. The measure cleared the House by a 220-204 margin.
The seven GOP members who broke with the president were Republican Reps. Tom Barrett of Michigan, Warren Davidson of Ohio, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, John McGuire of Virginia, Thomas Tiffany of Wisconsin, and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.
“This resolution directs the President to terminate the use of United States Armed Forces for hostilities in or against Iran.”
The vote marks the second time this Congress that a narrow group of Republicans has crossed the aisle on foreign policy matters involving Iran.
Supporters of the measure say Congress must reclaim its constitutional role in deciding matters of war. Critics argue the timing weakens American deterrence when threats from Tehran remain active.
“The American people deserve to know that their elected representatives will not handcuff our military while our enemies plot.”
House leadership has not indicated whether the Senate will take up the resolution. The White House has signaled strong opposition to any effort that limits presidential authority during active hostilities.
Wyatt Matters
Heartland families count on steady leadership that keeps America safe without endless foreign entanglements or sudden reversals in Washington. When lawmakers vote to tie a president’s hands in the middle of a crisis, everyday citizens are left wondering who is truly looking out for the nation’s security.

Who do they think they are? The turncoat Republicans are not working for the American people, and when voting time comes, they should be voted out. They are looking out only for themselves.
