Wyatt’s Take

  • The Trump administration authorized a search of a Washington Post journalist’s home after leaked secret information.
  • Pam Bondi said this move was needed to stop dangerous leaks and protect national security.
  • One Pentagon contractor was arrested for handing out classified materials.

The Justice Department, backed by the FBI, searched reporter Hannah Natanson’s home while looking into illegal leaks. The government believes a Pentagon contractor secretly gave her classified documents. Natanson has not been charged with any crime.

Attorney General Pam Bondi stated, “This past week, at the request of the Department of War, the Department of Justice and FBI executed a search warrant at the home of a Washington Post journalist who was obtaining and reporting classified and illegally leaked information from a Pentagon contractor. The leaker is currently behind bars. I am proud to work alongside Secretary Hegseth on this effort. The Trump Administration will not tolerate illegal leaks of classified information that, when reported, pose a grave risk to our Nation’s national security and the brave men and women who are serving our country.”

Police found classified papers in the contractor’s lunchbox and his basement. Marty Baron, former editor at the Post, said, “It’s a clear and appalling sign that this administration will set no limits on its acts of aggression against an independent press.”

In April, Bondi reversed old Biden-era rules and restarted monitoring reporters’ phone records to catch leakers. She wrote, “I have concluded that it is necessary to rescind Merrick Garland’s policies precluding the Department of Justice from seeking records and compelling testimony from members of the news media in order to identify and punish the source of improper leaks.”

Stay tuned for more updates on how these crackdowns affect truth-telling and press freedom in America.
