Netflix’s docudrama, “Queen Cleopatra,” has drawn the lowest audience score in television history, according to Forbes.
The controversial show, which debuted two weeks ago, initially received a mere 1% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, eventually creeping up to 2%.
The docudrama is part of the African Queens series and explores the rise and fall of the last pharaoh of Egypt.
It sparked controversy by suggesting that Cleopatra might have been of African descent, a claim that has been challenged by several critics and historians.
Kathryn Bard, a professor of archaeology and classical studies at Boston University, told Newsweek that “Cleopatra VII was white—of Macedonian descent, as were all of the Ptolemy rulers, who lived in Egypt.”
Gerald Kadish, a teaching professor emeritus of history and Near Eastern studies at Binghamton University, echoed this sentiment, stating that Cleopatra’s father’s identity is known.
The low audience score, even considering the controversy surrounding the show, was seen as surprising. As Forbes noted, “a 1% audience score seems borderline mathematically impossible.”
However, the “Queen Cleopatra” docudrama seems to have achieved this unprecedented low.
