  • His office says he is in good spirits and expects a full recovery.
  • This happens as McConnell plans to step down next January.

Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky was hospitalized after dealing with flu-like symptoms over the weekend. His team says it’s a precaution, and there aren’t many details on what caused his stay.

The senator’s office stayed positive, saying his prognosis “is positive.” He plans to return to the Senate soon and is talking regularly with his staff.

“In abundance of caution, after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend, Senator McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation last night,” said spokesman David Popp.

McConnell has faced other health issues in the past. At 83 years old, he has experienced several falls, including one last year that led to a concussion. He made history as the longest-serving Senate leader, and he’s expected to leave office next January.
