  • House Republicans press Speaker Johnson to block Senate bills until SAVE America Act gets a vote.
  • Rep. Van Orden warns lack of backbone dooms midterms after Iran strikes briefing.
  • Bill requires citizenship proof and ID for federal voting, passed House with near-unanimous GOP support.

Leaders held a Sunday call after U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran and amid Democrats’ DHS shutdown.

Lawmakers voiced frustration that Senate Majority Leader Thune won’t push the bill needing 60 votes.

Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., told Johnson,

“If we don’t get this done, or at least show that we’ve got some backbone, we’re done. The midterms are over.”

Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, said GOP voters lack enthusiasm, calling SAVE the biggest fix.

Speaker Johnson pushes Thune privately but cautions against public GOP war.

“If we’re going to go to war against our own party in the Senate, there may be implications to that,” Johnson said. “So we want to be thoughtful and careful.”

Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., suggested tying SAVE to DHS funding vote amid threats, but leaders hesitate.

This election security push highlights voter ID’s broad poll support despite Democrat suppression claims.

Time to fight for fair elections that protect real American votes from fraud.

The Dems will fight this tooth and nail to the end because if photo ID is required to vote they won’t have a turnout.

Thoughtful and careful? That’s just a new way to say hay lets not piss off the Dems.. Just grow a pair and force the vote. As far as the republican senators are concerned- those that wont vote for it–Get tough with them or vote them out. We the republican people are fed up with the same old gutless rhinos–The party is just about done if you don’t vote the way you all were elected to do.

If you want to keep women from voting then the SAVE Act is for you. If you want to make it harder for adoptees to vote, pass the SAVE Act. If you want to make it difficult for rural folks to vote, pass the SAVE Act.

The Republicans are hoping that by making it harder to vote they will have an edge over the Democrats. That’s it. There is virtually no voter fraud in this country.

However, what we do have is a lot of women whose current name is different from the name on their birth certificate and they may not have the documents available to prove who they are. Then there are the adoptees who have a birth name and a different name once they were adopted. Finally, people who live in rural areas may have been born at home and even if they were born in a hospital their birth might never have been registered with the state.

Republicans are willing to disenfranchise millions of Americans to win.

Poor Stephanie S. is saying that women (I presume married), adoptees, and rural people don’t have enough sense to have ID with their correct last names. That’s not going to be a problem. But, if someone, anyone, doesn’t have the mental capacity to get acceptable ID, then frankly, they don’t need to be voting because they surely will not know the candidates positions on various issues.
