January 1, GOP Hopefuls Rip Pritzker At Illinois Forum

Wyatt’s Take
- Every candidate at the forum slammed Governor Pritzker’s record.
- Crime, high taxes, and state leadership were main issues for GOP contenders.
- Second Amendment rights and ending woke mandates were top promises.
Illinois’s four Republican candidates for governor didn’t waste time going after Governor J.B. Pritzker at a campaign forum in East Dundee. The group focused their fire on high crime, state debt, and recent laws they say hurt working people.
DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick claimed, “Crime is out of control. That’s because of the SAFE-T Act, which I vow to get rid of. Day one, SAFE-T Act is gone, executive order. We’re violating federal law. It should not be allowed. It’s causing us to spend billions.”
Ted Dabrowski, the former president of Wirepoints, said he wouldn’t need on-the-job training. “I don’t need to figure out what’s going on, because I’ve been doing it for the last 15 years. Two, I know the other groups talk about doing (the Department of Government Accountability). I’ve been doing DOGE for 15 years,” Dabrowski said.
Dabrowski also argued Illinois must hand over wanted inmates to federal immigration agents. Darren Bailey promised to undo Pritzker-era rules like the TRUST Act and the SAFE-T Act, along with removing DEI requirements from schools, saying, “The TRUST Act must be repealed. That’s the very reason we’re having all of these problems in our large cities. The SAFE-T Act must be repealed. Any DEI woke initiative that applies to life or our public schools will be repealed.”
Businessman Rick Heidner blasted new taxes on police pensions, arguing, “These people worked their whole lives. When they came to work for us and they protected us, we promised them something. They deserve it.”
All four candidates agreed on protecting gun rights. Mendrick told voters, “Because I carry one myself,” promising never to take away anyone’s firearms.
The GOP primary is set for March 17, with the winner facing Pritzker in the fall. No Democrat is running against him in the primary.
Middle America faces tough times whenever government ignores working people’s needs. These candidates say they’ll fight for law, fair taxes, and the freedoms that matter most to families who call this place home.
