Wyatt’s Take

  • First-ever public viewing of all five pages of the Constitution
  • Original amendments, including the 27th, showcased for historic context
  • Exhibit serves as a reminder of American freedoms and responsibilities

The National Archives is letting everyday Americans see the entire original Constitution for the very first time, making history just before our country’s 250th birthday. This includes not only the four main pages but a rarely seen fifth page and all the amendments in their original forms.

The full Constitution, from September 16 to October 1, is on display in Washington, D.C., giving folks from all over the chance to view these powerful documents up close. The special exhibit includes the fifth page, which explains how states should ratify the Constitution and features President George Washington’s signature.

Alongside the main document, all 27 amendments are featured, from the earliest handwritten changes to more recent ones typed out on modern paper. A highlight is the 27th Amendment, first proposed in 1789 but not fully ratified until 1992, thanks in part to a determined college student who pushed states to approve it.

“We the People” are front and center here, reminding visitors of both their rights and their duties to respect each other’s freedoms, even in times of strong disagreement.

With growing political and cultural divides, seeing these foundational pieces in person is a vital way for Americans to reconnect with the roots of their liberty. The display runs through October 1 at the National Archives, offering a timely chance to reflect on what binds us together.

Step into history and see the document that still shapes our daily lives.
