Wyatt’s Take

  • Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons is stepping down after leading a major enforcement push.
  • He oversaw nearly 600,000 deportations since the start of the second Trump term.
  • Lyons will remain on the job through May 2026 to help ensure a smooth transition.

Officials praised Lyons for jumpstarting an agency that had been sidelined for years under previous leadership. He prioritized public safety by targeting those who pose the greatest threat to national security.

“Director Lyons has been a great leader of ICE and key player in helping the Trump administration remove murderers, rapists, pedophiles, terrorists and gang members from American communities,” Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.

Border officials noted that Lyons achieved record-breaking removal numbers despite facing significant challenges. His work was instrumental in reversing the border invasion that has plagued the country.

“Todd is a phenomenal patriot and dedicated leader who has been at the center of President Trump’s historic efforts to secure our homeland,” Stephen Miller stated.

Lyons cited a desire to spend more time with his family as his reason for leaving. He plans to move into the private sector after his final day on May 31.

Wyatt Matters

Strong leadership in law enforcement matters because communities depend on order, safety, and accountability. When agencies focus on removing violent criminals, Americans can feel more secure in their own neighborhoods.
