January 1, NBC Host’s Interview Meltdown With Trump Exposes Exactly What Media Won’t Admit

Wyatt’s Take

  • NBC’s Kristen Welker interrupted Trump so relentlessly during their Wisconsin barn interview that it stopped being journalism and started looking like a debate—exactly the trap mainstream media keeps falling into.
  • Trump called out the ‘crooked press’ after Welker kept dismissing evidence of election irregularities and Biden-era weaponization of government, refusing to let him finish a single thought about how innocent Americans were destroyed by political prosecutions.
  • The hostile back-and-forth proves what working Americans already know: legacy media isn’t interested in letting conservative voices be heard—they’re only interested in shutting them down on camera.

The media says Donald Trump “stormed out” of his sit-down with NBC’s Kristen Welker. The truth? It was more of a calculated exit after an hour of relentless interruptions that turned what should have been an interview into a televised argument.

The tension was obvious from the start. Welker wasn’t there to listen—she was there to fact-check, debate, and contradict at every turn.

Things fell apart completely in the final minutes:

“You’re crooked, your press is crooked, and ‘Meet the Press’ is crooked.”

“To be fair, I’m not crooked.”

“Really? Well, you play right into their hands then. You’re either crooked or you’re stupid.”

And then Trump ended it: “Sorry. Let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time.”

The pattern was unmistakable. Welker interrupted Trump so frequently that viewers couldn’t tell if they were watching journalism or a prosecution. Every answer was met with “there’s no evidence” or “that’s not been presented in a court of law.”

But there were moments when her persistence actually worked. When she pressed Trump on the controversial anti-weaponization fund that even some Republican lawmakers questioned, the exchange revealed real substance.

WELKER: Just to be very clear, are you backing off the fund completely, as your acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has said, or are you looking for another avenue to revive the fund?

TRUMP: So let me explain what the fund is. People have been hurt so badly by radical left lunatics that worked for the Biden administration and Sleepy Joe. They’re vicious. They’re violent, what they did to people. And, of course, they went after me more than anybody else. They raided Mar-a-Lago and all the other things. But people have been badly hurt. They’ve committed suicide. They’ve lost their jobs. They’ve lost their families. They’ve lost their wives. They’ve lost everything. They’ve lost everything over a fake weaponization of government. Now, let me just tell you—

WELKER: So are you looking for a way to revive it?

TRUMP: I wouldn’t be inclined to say so, but I have to see it. I can tell you this: 97% of those people, you look at them, the FBI or whoever it was, cause you had a lot of crooked cops, you had dirty cops. Comey was a dirty cop. A guy like Bolton was a dirty cop.

WELKER: But there is no evidence that people who—

TRUMP: Wait a minute. You think Comey was a straight cop?

WELKER: We had 170 people who pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers.

TRUMP: Comey was a dirty cop.

“But the people who assaulted police officers,” Welker shot back.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen with the weaponization fund. I love the idea, because people like you, the fake dirty press, the crooked press, people like stupid Biden, he’s not smart enough to know what’s going on, but people that surrounded him, surrounded his beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, what they did to the lives of people, they destroyed people. They sent people to jail who did nothing wrong.”

Welker interjected again. “Just to be very clear, there’s no evidence of what you’re saying.”

“There’s a lot of evidence. Listen to me… There’s tremendous evidence. There’s nothing but evidence.”

“Well, it’s not been presented in a court of law.”

“The election was rigged,” Trump proclaimed. “It was a dirty election. And it’s happening again right now in California.”

“Do you have evidence to support that?”

“All I have to do is look.”

“But that’s not evidence.”

The final six minutes became an absolute trainwreck of interruptions—a perfect example of what’s wrong with how mainstream media interviews conservatives.

WELKER: All right, this is, just to be very clear, there’s no evidence of what you’re saying, but let me ask about Todd Blanche.

TRUMP: There’s a lot of evidence.

WELKER: Let me ask about Todd Blanche.

TRUMP: Listen — listen to me — listen to me.

WELKER: Let’s talk about Todd Blanche.

TRUMP: There’s tremendous evidence. There’s nothing but evidence.

WELKER: Well, it’s not been presented in a court of law.

TRUMP: The election was rigged. It was a dirty election.

WELKER: Mr. President –

TRUMP: And it’s happening again right now in California.

WELKER: — you’ve never presented evidence –

Viewers aren’t stupid. They can tell when a guest is dodging or when a host is being deliberately combative. Welker didn’t need to hammer every single point like she was cross-examining a witness—but she seemed more worried about being accused of going easy on Trump than actually doing good journalism.

Here’s the context the headlines won’t mention: by the time things went off the rails, Trump and Welker had already talked for roughly an hour in a Wisconsin barn. They covered Iran, nuclear issues, the economy, gas prices, struggling farmers, and more. He’d given her plenty of material.

When Welker pushed back on Trump’s campaign pledge to end foreign wars, the exchange revealed another inconsistency.

“I didn’t guarantee no war,” Trump insisted. “Why would I have built the strongest military in the world?”

But at an August rally in Pennsylvania during the 2024 campaign, Trump had said: “Under Trump, we will have no more wars, no more disruptions, and we will have prosperity and peace for all.”

That contradiction is fair game. But Welker could have pointed that out in a follow-up segment instead of turning the entire interview into a verbal cage match.

One thing’s certain: the interview made plenty of news. NBC got exactly what it wanted—viral clips, outrage, and headlines. Whether that’s good journalism or good television is another question entirely.

Wyatt Matters

This wasn’t an interview—it was an ambush dressed up as journalism. When the media wonders why Middle America doesn’t trust them anymore, they should watch this tape. Working people don’t need a moderator to tell them what to think every five seconds. They can listen to both sides and decide for themselves. But that requires actually letting someone finish a sentence—and legacy media has apparently forgotten how.

Welker had evidence with the hunter crackhead laptop but that wasn’t good enough and the MSM never put more than two minutes into the story. Never let there retards see the truth. Never ask Biden a question that wasn’t pre approved. Why retards can’t u ever explain the double standard

My favorite line from this article: “Welker wasn’t there to listen—she was there to fact-check …”
      The audacity!
I appreciate you writing out the transcript of portions of the interview because it proves that Welker’s interruptions were all things like “There’s no evidence of that” or “That’s never been proven in court.” She was stating facts, nothing more.
It was suggested that her fact-checking should have taken place in a follow-up segment, but that’s how we got here: no reporter has ever challenged Mr. Trump to his face, leaving him free to make claims that don’t stand up to scrutiny. He may not even realize he’s doing it.
It was when Mr. Trump called Ms. Welker corrupt (& “Well, if you’re not corrupt, you’re stupid”) that I remembered what my grandma used to say: “When they start calling you names, you know you’ve won.”

Welker is rude and disrespectful. She never let PRESIDENT Trump complete his answers There have been plenty of evidence of fraudulent votes in 2020 (ballot harvesting where they were paid to vote biden). Why wasn’t biden interviewed in the same manner. Yes 😂

The President was and is correct because true facts, true EVIDENCE has been shared many times, but the msm refuses to report this TRUE FACT. I am sick and tired of liberal extreme biased reporter wannabes killing the facts of their stories. I KNOW WHAT A GOOD AND UNBIASED JOURNALIST is supposed to do—-a journalist NEVER presents his/her opinions in an article or interview. This woman obviously is of the group that hates Trumps, hates conservatives, and hates me because I believe in making America great again. Furthermore, I believe the dead, crooked 4th estate has become overcome with maniac monsters who refuse to see truth ANYWHERE. I just wish President Trump had left this attack sooner. You can’t reason with baiters and haters looking to make themselves something untenable before the cameras and or the print media.

If there was evidence why hasn’t hanniyy, fix, Newsmax show it every night? Why is Rupert Murdoch, the Koch inside all billionaires behind trump silent?

She did a great job with what she had to work with—clearly an untrustworthy leader. POTUS has proven to this country countless times what a thin-skinned liar he is. He obfuscates and redirects, and when that doesn’t work he starts belittling and name calling, then leaves rather than have an intelligent conversation even if there’s a difference of opinion. And that wasn’t even the case here. The reporter (who has always been extremely professional and fair, beginning when she was an NBC correspondent on the nightly news with Lester Holt) was merely asking questions, which you would think the leader of the USA would be able to do. Trump is easily going down as the absolute worst president our country has ever seen.

You obviously have TDS so of course your conclusion is in line with the “journalist”. It’s truly sad when so many “intelligent” adults refuse to listen to the full answer before responding. The only thing Welker showed was how bias she really is. There are irrefutable facts to backup election fraud in 2020. Just like the “Russian collusion”, it turns out Obama and Clinton were behind this. President Trump had nothing to do with it. This is the high-level type fraud facing America. The sad part is some are willing to belive the lies and the fraud over the truth. The media is nothing more than a propaganda machine spewing out half truths and just flat out lies disguised as their version of what true. When lies are repeatedly told after a period of time those lies are started to be believed. That is the sadest part of this entire mess that the media is responsible for.

TDS-didn’t vote for him. He cuts VA staff, reducing svcs, fired FDA workers, cut medical research, cuts CDC disease research, cuts inspections of food processing plants, eliminates inspection of all imported drugs, cuts Medicaid, SNAP, eliminated water safety inspections, Epstein files still unredacted, says stealth fighter is invisible to the naked eye, prasied China for their handling of covid, dispagared POWs. Fake university. Fake foundation. No infrastructure no healthcare: plan-disprove.
