Wyatt’s Take

  • Democratic operatives planted a fake ‘Dan Sullivan’ on Alaska’s ballot to confuse voters and steal the Senate seat from a decorated Marine colonel.
  • The DOJ is investigating this election scheme after state officials tried to remove the imposter, only to be overruled by Alaska’s Supreme Court.
  • Senator Dan Sullivan — the real deal — easily won the primary despite this dirty trick and will crush it in November when turnout more than doubles.

Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan advanced to the general election Tuesday after easily defeating a suspected plant candidate who shares his exact name. The challenger — a retired federal employee who hangs out at leftist “No Kings” rallies — finished a distant third but will appear on November’s ranked-choice ballot anyway because Alaska sends the top four finishers to the general.

The real Dan Sullivan came in a close second to Democratic Congresswoman Mary Peltola in primary voting. The fake Dan Sullivan wasn’t even close.

So why are election watchers calling this second Dan Sullivan a “dirty trick” candidate planted by Democrats?

The evidence is damning. Alaska election officials discovered that Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. initially filed for ballot access as “Dan Sullivan” — even though his voter registration listed him as Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. State officials saw this as clear proof he wanted voters to confuse him with the sitting senator.

It gets worse. This imposter switched his party registration to Republican right before filing. He’d never been a Republican before in his life.

The fake Sullivan’s campaign also had ties to a Democratic political consultant with a history of supporting Democrat candidates. Alaska election officials actually tried to kick him off the ballot, but the state Supreme Court ruled he could stay on.

Now the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the second Dan Sullivan’s campaign and has issued Grand Jury subpoenas as part of a federal probe into potential election fraud.

The real Senator Dan Sullivan should cruise to victory in November. He’s a relentless campaigner and highly effective senator in a state President Trump carried by 13 points two years ago. General election turnout is expected to more than double Tuesday’s numbers.

History proves Alaska general elections bring massive turnout increases over primaries. Tuesday’s statewide count hit around 109,000 ballots, and that’ll rise as absentee votes get counted.

Compare that to 2024’s general election when 340,981 Alaskans voted after only 108,906 showed up for the primary. In 2022’s general, 267,047 voted after roughly 190,000 participated in a primary that generated unusually high interest because of competitive Senate and gubernatorial races.

The spotlight on this suspected dirty trick will only intensify through fall. Alaskans are completely wise to the scam, and the general electorate will decide on the merits — though ranked-choice voting rules confuse even longtime Alaskans.

Senator Sullivan is a true patriot well known across Alaska. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1993, serving on active duty and in the Marine Corps Reserve before retiring as a colonel.

His military service included a deployment to Afghanistan as a reservist and an extended active-duty tour from 2004-06 with substantial time in the Middle East, Horn of Africa, and Central Asia. His military background drives his Senate work on defense, Arctic security, and veterans’ issues.

Sullivan graduated from Harvard College and Georgetown University Law School. He clerked for federal and state judges and worked as an Alaska attorney before joining President George W. Bush’s administration on the National Security Council staff. He then became Bush’s Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs from 2006 to 2009.

Back in Alaska, Sullivan served as Natural Resources Commissioner and Attorney General before winning his Senate seat in 2014. At 61, he’s hitting his prime as a senator with the kind of seniority that lets him deliver real results for Alaska.

Alaska’s economic lifeblood — oil and gas development, mining, federal lands, resource management, Arctic development, and military presence — all depend on having senators with serious clout. Sullivan and Senator Lisa Murkowski have that power.

Come November, Senator Dan Sullivan will be on the ballot with “Republican incumbent” next to his name. He’ll be backed by a major campaign across every platform with a battle-tested get-out-the-vote operation turning out every supporter.

Alaskans understand what’s at stake. They know exactly what happens to Alaska’s economy when Democrats control the Senate. They won’t fall for a fake candidate gaming the system.

Why It Matters

This is what Democrats do when they can’t win fair and square. They plant confusion candidates, manipulate ballots, and hope working Americans are too dumb to notice. Alaska voters see right through it. A decorated Marine who’s spent decades serving this country isn’t about to lose to some leftist operative wearing a name tag. That’s the kind of integrity Middle America still recognizes and respects.
