January 1, Nassar Abuse Victims Reach $380M Settlement
USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee have agreed to pay a $380 million settlement with hundreds of victims of longtime team doctor Larry Nassar.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the settlement is among the largest ever for sexual abuse.
“No amount of money will ever repair the damage that has been done and what these women have been through,” said Rachael Denhollander, a Nassar survivor. “But at some point, the negotiations have to end because these women need help — and they need it right now.”
The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee is set to pay $34 million of the settlement directly, as well as a loan of $6 million to USA Gymnastics for its contribution.
An insurer for the organizations will pay the rest of the settlement.
