President Donald Trump will announce plans Monday for a massive new steel plant in Iowa that the White House says will be the biggest in U.S. history. The roughly $15 billion project is expected to bring 1,750 permanent jobs to the state and thousands more during construction.

The plant will use iron ore from a new mine in Minnesota to make finished steel right here in America. Officials say the facility will eventually produce 10 million tons of steel per year, which would equal about one-tenth of all U.S. steel production last year.

Trump is set to make the announcement from the Oval Office at 2 p.m. alongside executives from Mesabi Metallics. The company plans to build the Iowa plant using ore mined in Minnesota, creating a complete American supply chain from mine to mill.

“President Trump is delivering on his promise to rebuild American industry, reshore manufacturing, and create new jobs,” White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers told Fox News Digital.

“Today’s announcement underscores the President’s historic efforts to revitalize the U.S. steel industry—supporting local communities, strengthening supply chains, and protecting our national security,” Rogers said. “After decades of decline, this President is restoring America’s industrial competitiveness and securing trillions of dollars in new investment.”

The announcement comes as Trump continues to use tariffs to bring manufacturing jobs back home. He doubled tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50 percent last year to protect American producers from cheap foreign competition.

The Iowa plant will be the first new mega-steel facility built in the United States since the 1960s. Unlike smaller electric arc furnace plants, this will be a large integrated steel mill capable of making the high-grade steel needed for defense and critical infrastructure.

The first phase of the steel plant and the Minnesota mine together represent nearly $18 billion in investment. The White House estimates this will generate about $95 billion in economic activity during construction and the first ten years of operation.

Trump is expected to be joined by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, National Energy Dominance Council Executive Director Jarrod Agen, Export-Import Bank Chairman John Jovanovic, and Mesabi Metallics leaders Rewant Ruia, Prashant Ruia, and CEO Joe Broking.
