A California teacher is under investigation for removing the US flag from her classroom and encouraging her students to pledge allegiance to a gay pride flag.

The teacher, identified as Kristin Pitzen, explained in a TikTok post that she’d removed the flag from her classroom because it made her “feel uncomfortable.”

She went on to say that a student asked where they should look during the pledge of allegiance since there wasn’t a flag in the room.

“In the meantime, I tell this kid, ‘We do have a flag in the class that you can pledge your allegiance to,” Pitzen continued, pointing to a pride flag hanging on a wall.

“Showing respect for our nation’s flag is an important value our district instills in our students and is an expectation of our employees,” Newport-Mesa Unified School District said in a statement. “We take this matter seriously and are investigating and addressing it.”
