January 1, Border Patrol Agents Clash With Rioters in Minneapolis

Wyatt’s Take
- Federal agents in Minneapolis faced violent rioters after a shooting involving an armed illegal immigrant.
- Crowds blocked roads and attacked officers while agents tried to secure the area.
- Officials warn this unrest points to a rising threat for law enforcement nationwide.
Federal authorities shot and killed an armed man near a Minneapolis donut shop during a targeted operation Saturday. As news spread, nearly 200 rioters descended on the scene, attacking agents and blocking vehicles.
Agents reportedly faced violent resistance as they tried to disarm the suspect, who carried a 9mm handgun and extra magazines but no identification. “Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene,” officials wrote.
Video footage showed out-of-control crowds clashing with federal agents, who deployed tear gas to push them back. “This is exactly why the Insurrection Act needs to be invoked!” stated Gunther Eagleman.
At least one rioter, identified as an anti-ICE agitator, suffered a broken leg during the incident as shown in footage of agents carrying him to safety. Crowds continued to escalate the encounter with aggressive tactics.
The Department of Homeland Security shared a photo of the handgun recovered from the suspect. Officials say the violence signals a growing danger for law enforcement, warning that political rhetoric and hostile crowds are making immigration enforcement extremely risky.
Agents stress that the willingness of agitators to swarm and attack at an active shooting scene is far beyond protest—it’s a threat to every officer trying to serve America.
If you care about the safety of your streets, it’s time to pay attention to what’s happening in places like Minneapolis. Working families deserve better.

Thank you for properly calling physical attacks and harassment rioting. The AP’s attempt to make everyone use NewSpeak is disgusting and deceitful.

All lies… shame on whoever wrote this article.. it’s propaganda. The man who was murdered was a nurse and had a legal right to carry. He never touched his gun and was disarmed BEFORE they shot him 5+ times (a number of those shots were fired as the federal agent was backing away from his LIFELESS body). It isn’t opinion… I saw the video with my own eyes. It was MURDER!

I didn’t see the video yet but I plan to. Reading your comment I found myself asking what was he thinking approaching officers who are in the middle of a tense situation armed with a loaded weapon? Permit to carry or not… what was he thinking? Something just wasn’t right about him doing that. Did he have a death wish? As a nurse with access to drugs, was he on something? Lots of unanswered questions, so there’s plenty of speculation including mine and yours.

A lot to unpack. Biden Administration lures in 10 Million unvetted Illegal Aliens and sprinkles them throughout the country for political reasons. Democrat Sanctuary Policies prevent DHS from accessing the worst of the worst at appropriate safer sites for removal, that is jails, police stations, and courts when final deportation orders exist, for political reasons and misplaced feelings of compassion. This goes so far as to use the courts to block and return Illegals even known to have rap sheets and criminal gang ties?
Because of these obstacles, DHS, ICE and Border Patrol, are forced to attempt targeted apprehensions in various parts of the country. Minnesota draws attention as a particular hotbed of Illegals and widespread fraud in a massive operation. Agents often wearing masks in an effort to avoid doxing and the resulting threats to the agents and their families. Politicians and other local and outside agitators with questionable funding whip up the populace to oppose the apprehensions, encouraging serious active opposition. This is done with particularly slanted and often untruthful rhetoric intentionally using the most inflammatory language. No surprise, some activists cross into physical and unlawful confrontations to impede apprehensions which, so far in the vast majority of cases, have been targeted to illegals with various crimes beyond simply crossing the border unlawfully. Renee Good is a prime example of a rapid series of bad decisions leading to her death.
Now Alex Pretti. Likely in a downward spiral following a recent divorce? Had been advised not to take action or do anything stupid by his family. He comes to protest and steps into a confrontation between numerous armed Border Patrol agents and another protestor. He is armed, has no ID as required by his concealed carry permit, and gets physical. When it is observed he is armed in the melee of the moment it appears an agent takes the firearm. Pretti is shot likely by an agent believing Pretti was drawing his pistol. Upon hearing the shot additional shots are made to stop the threat. Again a very rapidly occurring series of bad decisions leading to a death. The firearm is a higher end semiautomatic loaded with a full magazine. Two other loaded magazines are on his person, about 30 bullets? Was this a suicide by cop scenario or just an escalating series of mistakes and bad decisions made in a fast moving emotionally charged moment? Doubt it will ever be known.
What is sure, many of the decisions and actions leading to these two deaths way preceded the immediate mistakes, bad decisions, and stupid actions of the tense moments leading to the shots being fired.
What should happen is the deportations should be allowed to he done via normal and safer procedures. Politicians and activists should be restricted to regular lawful protests and the courts or appropriate legislation. Sadly, unlikely to happen. Yes, these removals are unseemly. The cause is not in this moment it goes back years.
