January 1, Suspended Judge’s Secret Courthouse Affairs and Corruption Scandal Uncovered

Published

on

Associate District Judge Brian Lovell has been temporarily suspended for alleged sexual misconduct and corruption during courthouse hours in Garfield County, Oklahoma. A petition filed on June 27 accuses the 58-year-old judge of exchanging sexually graphic messages and images with court staff during working hours. He also allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with them inside the courthouse.

Lovell’s alleged misconduct began in 2011 when he failed to disclose his relationship with bailiff Natalie Marshall. The relationship was discovered when Marshall resigned. Despite this, five District Judges voted for Lovell to retain his position.

In 2023, the petition alleges that Lovell engaged in sexual activity with court bailiff Cynthia Tubbs during courthouse hours. He also continued to exchange explicit messages. Lovell denied the sexual activity, claiming it was only “flirtatious texting.” However, Tubbs testified that the acts did occur, backed by text messages referencing their encounters.

Judge Lovell is also accused of “gross partiality” and corruption. He allegedly colluded with an attorney on multiple cases and attempted to persuade another attorney to give false testimony. He has repeatedly evaded disciplinary action by not appearing before the Council on Judicial Complaints and refusing to participate in its proceedings.

Lovell has faced previous legal troubles, including indictments for drive-by shootings in Oklahoma and Texas.

Lovell’s attorney, Stephen Jones, claimed the petition was an attempt to “humiliate and embarrass Judge Lovell and his family.” He denied that Lovell was responsible for the listed offenses. Lovell has until July 8 to appeal his suspension, and his hearing for removal is scheduled for July 30.

It looks like that county needs 6 new judges, and at least one old one in jail.

I was just wondering the same thing, Patrick Cross. Need look no further for corruption at the highest level. And what of the other judges that looked the other way and continued to vote him onto the bench?

The judges who voted for him to remain on the court the last time should be investigated for corruption themselves.
