January 1, Man Wins $1M Due To Printing Error
An Iowa man became a millionaire following a ticket-printing error.
Josh Buster of West Burlington won $1 million from playing Mega Millions at his local convenience store. Buster said the clerk accidentally printed out just one, easy-pick play for the Mega Millions when he’d requested five.
The store clerk then printed out a separate ticket with the remaining four easy-pick plays, which Buster credits with his win.
“I feel like that changed the numbers that I would have gotten if he had put them all on one instead of making that mistake,” Buster said.
The 40-year-old prep chef said he will use his winnings to pay off his car and his mother’s mortgage, and set aside the rest for retirement.
“It will take away a lot of my stress in my life — no more financial worries,” Buster said.
